"I'm just saying"

WTF does that even mean? So you had some guy on your jumpseat who says..............

This place is full of idiots and trolls. I'll see the real UAL/CAL guys on the picket line. Oh, how will I survive? It's called living way below your means, a working spouse, 8 months of living expenses cash, and ready to do what it takes to make it better.

"Im" = I'm
[ahym] Show IPA
contraction of I am.

"Just"=
adverb, 3. (intensifier): it's just wonderful to see you

"Saying"=
Verb (used without object)
to speak; declare; express an opinion.

Any questions? Oh and I have one. Are you saying that first year FOs at cal who dont have 8 months of living expenses sitting around and a working spouse are not REAL CAL pilots?

Im just saying

No, I'd say they are unprepared for a work stoppage.

Thanks for the definition Webster.

No flamebait here but I think folks are getting this idea from what the CAL ALPA Pres said recently. He said quote, "there will probably be provisions made for 70 seat flying in the next contract." (he was referring to this flying being done by the regionals and not UAL/CAL and was making this remark as his own opinion.)

Now we all can speculate what was meant by this remark.

There is probably going to have to be some sort of provision as obviously the company is not going to set the parking brake on all these 70 seat jets. But I do not think that we are going to "give away" scope either which implies the company can do whatever they want.

And "senior guys" by definition are the minority. If the "senior guys" are able to push any sort of agenda, then the "junior guys" have no one to blame but themselves. I also fly with many senior wide body guys and from my observations (admittedly limited to my little world), these guys largely "get it" when it comes to scope.

I'll be ready to walk if they do not get back our SCOPE, our PAY, and our WORKRULES, and our RETIREMENT! I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.

yuppy,
Love your intentions. You have to keep things in the scope of reality though. We need to be smart as well as have resolve.

Scope. Needs tightened up for sure on both ends, wide bodies and RJ's. Reality is the company will not all of a sudden park all of the 70 seaters.

Pay. I'm with you there 100%

Work rules. again with you 100%

Retirement. I personally don't want our A plan back. I would rather have a larger B plan. This way if the company tanks we don't lose again. One could quit on a Monday, company goes under on a Tuesday and nothing is lost.

Best post on this thread. I agree 100%. If the 737s can be parked then so can the 70 seaters. If they are that key to the operation, then UAL pilots can fly them.

And do what? What is a 40, 45 or 50 year old pilot going to go do to make 100k/year? I always wonder what the late middle aged pilot back up plan is. I know internet pilots all have 300k a year side gigs, but what is the average pilot with a wife and kids going to do? Burn the place down? I don't think so. It has always seemed as such an empty threat, and I think mgt knows this.

Thankfully, we don't hear too many guys with this mantra anymore. I think we all have a plan now.

Here's the thing... I'm not asking if it's true, I'm telling you it is. Aside from the guy at United who has heard ALPA make the offer (not the other way around), I'm also hearing it from Skywest who are lined up to replace Expressjet 145's with 70-seaters as quickly as they can come off the line. Granted Skywest isn't the best source of information, but where do you think they get their scope information from? United. I'm also hearing that Skywest is talking with the manufacturers about placing an order for hundreds of 70-seaters as soon as they get the go-ahead from United.

Don't believe it? Remember that little bit of news last year about how Skywest renegotiated the Expressjet CPA with United when they bought them? Yeah, well it gave Skywest exclusive upgrade rights from 50's to 70's for Expressjet, and they've been told to start negotiating 70-seat jets.

http://www.centreforaviation.com/news/2010/08/05/skywest-to-acquire-expressjet-in-continued-us-regional-consolidation/page1

So now United is talking about parking the 737-500's and at the same time ALPA is offering 70-seat scope. Me thinks some naive mainline pilots might find themselves kicked to the curb by ALPA...again.

So what to do? Call your reps and tell them what you want. If you want scope relief for whatever they're willing to buy it for, tell them. If you don't want scope relief because you value your profession, tell them. Once scope is on the table, it's expensive to take it back.

Who is they? ASA, Skyw Inc or ExpressJet?

BS. I know they guy that does the hiring and it's not 80 a month. It more like 200 this year.

What guy? We don't have a guy and if we did we would have been replaced by an ASA guy by now as all interviews are done in ATL. We are hiring 80 a month currently.
