How does Colgan have the nerve to ask for a doctor's note from someone who has not called in sick once in the whole 3 years they have been there? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Has Colgan ever heard of the IM SAFE checklist? I thought our job was transporting people from place to place as safely as possible.... Hey Mikey, is'nt that why you have reserves?

Yep

I know what you mean. Unbelievable, isn't it? I hate to say it, but I have four letters for you....ALPA.

How the fukc would you know what Colgan requires for a sick call? Pi$$ off back to your shiny jet.

It's amazing.... Every time someone tells someone else what an idiot they are, they can't put a complete and proper sentence together themselves.

called out sick once in a year and a half. no hassle. They only hassle you if they don't happen to have a way to cover the trip that day.

I love it when a moderator edits a post then fails to accurately convey the point of the initial post. Must have hit a nerve..

Well, the sad fact is that too many people have abused sick days and the companies feel that while they have to trust you with the airplane they can't trus you to behave...especially if they have coverage!

The sick time we have earned with our hard work, is something we have a right too regardless of the reason we need it. Whether its something with family, sick, emotional whatever.....WE HAVE EARNED IT, ITS OUR RIGHT!!!

I have about 25 more vindictive policies you can expect to see in the near future from your new employer. I can't imagine what our policies would look like if we didn't have any contract protections.

Who is this? ORF Jack? On a different subject, you are probably one of those guys that thinks it is OK for scheduling to change the block times when they finally realize that its over 8 hours for the day! I guess 10 minute turns are ok for you too! I don't care what type of airplane it is, it takes more than 10 minutes to turn it!!!!!!!! ORF Jack, Just Sign the cards!

Do you work for ALPA? Cause I know you don't work for CJC. And why are you being a tool trying to out members? You suck. But don't worry, I've mailed mine.

That was my point! some guys come on here and say that this is'nt true, but it is!

He's probably part of that "student council" for colgan trying to screw around with the so called movement for ALPA....we need representation now, were getting to big not to have something to make it better. Send them in!!!!

The amount of "coverage" they have should have nothing to do with sick call policy.

Believe me, Pinnacle Corp is not your friend. It is really hard to convey to anyone how little these people think about safety, regs, labor laws, the FAA, or you.

Turbo

Not too many responses to this one....... I guess ORF Jack is speechless! Sign'em!:uzi:

I called in sick yesterday and now I have to fly to HDQ and meet with the chief because I didn't have a doctors note.

I work for an ALPA carrier and we can be asked for a doctor's note. ALPA doesn't solve everything.

ALPA negotiated that if the company wants a doctor's note, they can have it...the company just has to pay for it.

I've heard that hasn't happened much since a pilot called in sick for a severe headache, he was sent to the hospital for a doctor's note, and the doctors gave him an MRI and many other expensive tests to check for brain trauma...

We would always have to get one at PDT. Had a Capt call in sick, got asked for note, caught a taxi to the hospital (too un-well to drive), got $3000 in exams, and caught taxi home. Company required by contract to pay for all expenses. Never got asked for note again.

That's awesome.

It's just simple intimidation. The company always assumes that every time a pilot calls in sick they are playing hooky. Well this is certainly true in some cases and I don't condone it the reality is that a lot of sick calls are legitimate and pilots do a job where they can't come to work with certain conditions that wouldn't prevent others with ground jobs from working. Intimidation just causes sick pilots to fly and makes more people sick. If you really are sick you can probably buy a few extra days off with a doctor's excuse which can actually defeat the company logic. I don't work for Colgan but it seems to me that these smaller airlines just don't get it. There is a pilot shortage at the lower levels and you can't operate an airline without pilots. Small airlines should be looking for ways to attract and retain pilots not drive them away. Colgan is one of the carriers that may end up in a "death spiral" with pilots leaving faster than they can be replaced causing additional pressure to be placed on existing crews, creating even MORE attrition until the company can't operate anymore. The only way they have a chance at sving themselves is to build a reputation as a good place to work that offers good schedules and quality of life and a management that treats pilots fairly and with respect. Pilot pushing will not be a successful strategy for small airlines in today's world.

You see, there are ways to deal with these things in a constructive, proactive manner!

Colgan is a death spiral. These morons created the bed they will sleep in. The don't have any new FOs? Gee I wonder why. You can only abuse people for so long before the word is out. Believe me, the word is out.....

Called in sick last week . Response was we don't have anybody to cover, like I was supposed to change my mind. If I remember correctly I earned the sick day. They covered all flights. This company will never have enough pilots to function like other airlines.

I called in sick once while I was at Colgan and was told I needed a doctor's note. It was nowhere close to a holiday either. Thanks Gina!
