Its takes money to motivate somebody. They need to motivate the book keepers for such a boring job so that they can avoid paying fines down the road. They put a higher value on that vs pilots. We as pilots have done it to ourselves taking low pay entry level positions after convincing ourselves that its just a stepping stone. When in fact the stepping stone is now a career position. Management knows this and they also know we are motivated in our jobs since we all want to go home at the end of the trip in one piece. Management uses this as a motivator to let us continue underpaid and over worked.
 
City of Chicago web site has an opening for a "laborer" at ORD. Empty trash, cut grass, shovel snow and earn $29/hr. That works out to about $4000 a month. I applied yesterday, better than the $26,100 I'll be making after my downgrade training is done.
