You realize you're posting in the Corporate Forum, right? Given the time of your post I'll assume that you were drinking. You should probably head back to the Regional Forum and go play over there.

At the airlines I fully supported a little media diversion from time to time, in an effort to stay awake and sharp. Now I'm flying for an uber-rich owner of a $55M aircraft where the cockpit door is open above 10,000ft. He is NOT going to wander up front and see one or both of the pilots reading the Moscow Times or some ratty old Louis L'Amour novel. Not on my watch. Of course, we have the luxury of getting up and walking around the cabin when we need to in an effort to stay focused.
That's because you have a plane large enough that you can actually get up and walk around in. Do you think I'm dumb enough to let them see me reading?

Frankly, yes.

2dumb with regard to spelling on a message board, who cares. #2 When were at altitude if I get tired, I get out of my seat grab a drink/snack and see how everyone is doing. Look I'm not standing on a soap box and preaching my values. If my coworker sittin next to me wants to read a magazine then great. I dont have a beef with it and quite frankly none of our passengers have either.

In fact our pax are the most laid back group of people to work for. The question was raised about reading in the cockpit. I dont do it, I think its unprofessional. If you do, thats your thing.

With regard with your statement on me "really flying an X", yeah I really do fly an X, again who cares. If there's anything I can do to help validate what I fly please let me know.

So reading is unprofessional but walking around is not?

Do you fly your X above FL250?

Does the other pilot wear a mask while you are on your walkabouts?

Do you take these walks above FL410? FL510?

At least a magazine won't kill you.

Ok people, get the friggin' sticks out of your a$$es!!! RELAX. I read-YES, and will continue to read.

BTW- directed at those who have a problem with reading in the cockpit.

I remember a great "immediate action" checklist that was floating around ASA. It looked like it was culled from the QRH; anyway, the first item was, "USA Today: emergency stow"

Cheers- Rum

I just bring my crayons along and start coloring when the other guy won't let me read.

I think a few of you "aces" ought to "lighten up Francis"! I think the jitbag that asked how many Fadecs are required to dispatch should take a friggin pill!!! are you kidding me? relax! be a pro but relax!

I wish they had a more pilot friendly USA Today. What a pain in the a$$ to open, change the pages, etc. I do manage though.

Ever see someone driving their car whilst reading a book? I don't read in the car, other than a checklist I don't read in the cockpit
I hope this is a joke, were not talking about on short final, were talking about cruise flight.
