No...I do not want to be an ALPA officer or a USAPA officer. I'm just a line pilot who wants a contract. Being the lowest paid 757 Captain in the world really sucks, so we need you guys in the East to tell the USAPA boys that trying to waste the NIC is a waste of time and money. We want a contract NOW.
The following opinion has NO NIC influence.
I agree a new contact with a nice pay raise would be nice. My position is among the lowest of the low paid in this company, so believe me I feel your pain. However, I am not willing to make quality of life any worse than it is for a few $$. What the company has on the table is just terrible. If we could get both, I am all on board.
We also have to be careful demanding a contract now, just because we are in negotiations. The company reads these things, they have their do boys that run to them with every little thing. So if the company gets the sense that we will sign on the dotted line just for the sake of getting the contract, this will drag out longer, and we will end up worse than we are now.
If there is one thing anyone can learn from the East, it would be concessionary contracts. And this is the classic beginning of another one.
The next step will be the "insiders" telling the line pilots how X is on the table if we could just make the deal today. It is a script and it was perfected by Ford and Harrison. (read confessions of a Union buster).
Again this is not East VS West, this is Pilots VS management.
