Attention Mesaba kids:

Just heard from someone at the G/O that CVG is going, going, gone very soon. Stand by for another displacement/base closing bid.

Let the good times roll!

Meeting with Big Wigs and all CVG employees on Wednesday, 10/12, 9:30pm. Wonder what it's about... Barkeep! Another beer please. No, I mean another pitcher.

MM

Any XJers make it to the meeting in CVG tonight?

I'm wondering what was said, although I'm pretty sure I can figure out the jist of it unfortunately.

"we need to stay focused on running an efficient airline so that we can prove to our only customer NWA that..blah blah blah"

Or some variation of that tired old song.

Nov.1
Crews will be bidding reserve lines in CVG for the month of November. No flying out of CVG. No trips out of CVG. No TDY available

Thanks. Sounds like another "Crew Planning Special."

I wonder what they plan on doing with the Taj Ma-hangar down there. Once again, money well spent.

Man that sucks. I've been through that crap cycle, back when they closed CWA. Too bad we didn't win the grievance over what they did to us, then maybe you guys wouldn't have to face the pain of being crew scheduling's toys for a month. Document everything: every call, every assingment. It will come in handy if they screw it up and you guys need to file a grievance.

wha happened?

Anyone at the meeting tonight that can give more of a detailed description of what happened?

CVG closed? Moving everyone to other bases?

XJ no longer in CVG next month. All flying done by NWA / 9E including new servive to MEM. Maybe the hangar can be used for the XJ refugees.
Thumbs up to crews in CVG had a great time.

Does that include all the mx guys there too? Did they say how they plan on getting out of the lease of the hangar? So absolutely no XJ flights to/from CVG?

Word is that the hangar will be around for a while so they can re-engine the AVRO's before they're returned to the leasor (sp).

Wow, what a quarter!

How many crews are there in CVG? What is the total number of people involved? Where do you think these people will end up?

Good luck to you guys.

I have a bad feeling this thread is going to get hijacked by the Comair folks. That is a low comment, I know...

MSP has been doing engine changes for the past few weeks, about 3 a day.

Who was at the meeting in CVG?

Whats the final word on Cinci base? I want to hear it from someone who actually attended, is the base closing? I see the lines have every pilot on reserve w/11 days off. There are some parings listed but no flying on any lines, Is that just for the time being? If that holds true, that'l suck sheep b*lls for the commuters. You'd think they could award a few more days off with that many people (everyone) on reserve........you'd think!

I caught the 1st 1/2 of the CC last night. THe base is officially closing. It will be about a 3 month process to get everybody displaced. In the mean time everyone is straight reserve. A few people asked about making the reserve lines with extra days off. Status Quo and the current CBA means reserve lines always have been and will continue to be built with 11 days off. Why would the company bend the contract and status quo to help out the pilots when the pilot group stands behind status quo and the CBA themselves? ALPA preeches "Fly Safe & Fly the Contract" which I am all for so I don't fault the company when they use a similiar philosophy.

makes the bidding a whole lot easier.

I was at the meeting.... No real surprises other than everyone is sititng reserve, EVERYONE. All flight attendants are gone on Dec 1. Pilots will go as soon as retraining or furloughs can happen (expected to take about 3 months) It's displacement on a grand scale. Supposedly mgmt is meeting with the unions for "relief" from some provisions of the contract. Basically it's a giant goat rope.:puke:

I think it's time to search for the old Learjet manuals.

Check please.

This is something I think should be monitored carefully. They pulled this same crap at CWA/RHI the announcement was in August or September, and the last guys left to start class in January. From what I remember/understand the grievance that was filed dealt with the amount of flying that the CWA/RHI guys did outside of base, and that it constituted more than 5% (in DTW/MEM), which was the max amount under the contract that the company could leave unassigned. We lost that argument.

My position is that we should have also challenged the company/filed a grievance based on the TDY provisions of the contract. Its been a while, but from what I remember, any assignment that the company knows will last longer than 90 days has to be done as a TDY. My arguement was that, in the case of CWA, they knew that it would take more than 90 days to move everyone out base and by failing to create positions in the bases that received the flying formerly done by CWA (as evidenced by the high rate of usage of the CWA pilots who were on R and were sent to sit at those bases) then they ineffect created a TDY need and violated the contract (atleast the spirit of the contract) by failing to offer TDY.

The current situation is a bit more challenging as some of the flying actually will be going away as 9 Avros get parked, but I would still love to see someone grieve the pure reserve crap on the grounds that the company knows this will take 3 months and it should be TDY based on that time span.
