I love it too when I'm in CVG and I'll hear some gay remark about us over ops, but I've never had anyone come say something to my face.

Don’t get me wrong I’m itching for a chance to fly one but what I am hearing is a 10-year Capt. will be a 57.00/hr that’s defiantly not going to do it for the pay they are offering.

Everyone has brought up some very good points about both airlines...some points are a little misleading at times, though. I do agree with the statement that you should go with who hires you first.

But, after reading all of the posts I can't help but wonder. If CHQ is so bad, as many posts are saying, then why is it that you never hear CHQ crews complaining? They always seem to be very happy with their QOL and contract and their company and growth prospects. These sentiments range from CHQ's most senior Captains to the most junior FOs.

You hear nothing but complaining on these websites from other airlines but you'll never meet a CHQ crew that denies a jumpseater, complains about pay, complains about schedules, complains too much about bases, complains about junior manning(CHQ doesn't have it), etc. etc.

So, when choosing any company to work for, not just an airline, it may be worth it to look to see how happy the employees are as whole. I'm sure it is just a product of coming to a website like these, so I don't like to this generalization...but it seems that CHQ seems happy with their place in the airline industry whiles others on this thread are looking for (or complaining about) greener pastures.

This is just an uneducated observation from me and has no statistical data to back it up.

Right buddy, how did I screw myself or anyone else when I got a pay raise and QOL improvement with the last contract. Have you ever heard that $hit rolls downhill? Tell me how your next contract is going to be sooooooooo great when your buddies at mainline take a huge pay cut??

No, overall ASA is a pretty good place to work. We have good equipment, good maintenance overall, great pass benefits, fairly good destinations, and for the most part the people are great. One reason that I complain is that I see how much better it could be with very minimal effort from management, which they are not willing to make. Right not, being in contract negotiations, things are obviously a little tense, and the company is doing it's best to screw with people, but that won't last forever. And whether we get a big pay raise (I don't think we will), we still have a pretty good contract, at least when it's followed.

Right or wrong depends entirely on the perception in this case and there will be no resolution of that question/challenge in this or any other of these hydra-like and seemingly endless threads.

As for us, we are all just pilots. We took the job that offered a class date first in most cases and we have no say as to where we fly or who we fly them for.

I will say that I love my QOL at Chautauqua and I firmly believe that our work rules are some of the best out there. I am also very impressed with all of my co-workers and that strong ethic everybody has. You'll very seldom find a CHQ pilot that won't smile and say "hi" in the terminal or complain about work.

Improved pay, 16-18 days off, scope with Republic, no junior manning, paid medicals, improved benefits, outstanding employee group.......I'm not seeing too many negatives here.

I am 100% happy with CHQ. There is NO other Regional I would rather be at, PERIOD. Great people, great base choices and most of all, are EGGS are in 4 baskets, (with the 5th being announced in 2005)

First of all, I appreciate your thoughts "AFELLOWAVIATOR" because I belive that we are all in this together- just like your name should suggest. However, I disagree with you.

I am a CHQ pilot, and **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**ed proud to be one. Am I happy with the current contract? Hell No, but in the various positions we were in, it was what we could do. Maybe you will indulge me for a brief moment.

When we at CHQ began negotiations (for the second time- after a failed T/A) there were multiple players which we exercised leverage against the company. There was the whole (at that time) alter-ego being started up by our Parent Company, there was support from USAirways' ALPA against this, there were Company Contract restraints against CHQ's certificate flying anything larger than 50 seats, we were yet not public and therefor were unable to get conclusive financial data, we had a strong bluff of a strike vote, yet no leverage from the NMB (that is the National Mediation Board) to act on it. When we did finally reach a T/A (the first post 9-11 positive contract) Air Wisconsin had just approved pay cuts, ACA just approved pay cuts, Mesa's contract had just been signed earlier that year.

Now, what did we gain.

A 4 1/2 year contract (now 3 1/2) with a 6 month early opener. We also had pay scales for five years, knowing we would again be in negotiations for years.

Not as good of pay wages as Comair. You are right and I am happy for you guys, but given the leverage we had, and the leverage we were losing it was the best we could get, and the 3rd best in the industry for our equipment at the time.

1.45 per diem (now 1.50) with nickel increases every year.

What did we give up? Nothing.


Now, in the meantime, we had 125 guys illegally fired for almost a year, and then once some got back were furloughed "because of our Strike Vote." We have guys that have been here 20 years and were verbally and physically threatened when they started the Union. And by the way- we went to ALPA for membership and they said we were to small (This was in 1986 with 30 pilots). The Teamsters were the only ones who would touch us. The Company spent well over a million dollars in Union Busting Tactics in the last negotiations alone.

Now, I am not trying to inflate CHQ pilots. I would also like to see the CHQ contract get better, but sometimes you have to take multiple swings get everything you want. We did however get our nose under the tent.

So, I will still support all of the Comair, ASA, Skywest, ACA, Mesa, Trans States, Peidmont, PSA, USAir, etc..... and you are all welcome on my jumpseat anytime. Personally I would like to see us all grow, but not at the expense of mainline. It is one big whipsaw.


Also, AFELLOWAVIATOR a CRJ costs $22 Million. An ERJ costs $17 Million. Which one is easier to finance for growth? 100 airplanes would be $500 Million dollars difference PLUS interest and depreciation costs. Maybe the pilot contract isn't the reason CHQ got the growth.

Just some information for everyone to think about.

Comair built the Terminal 10 years ago and opened it. It is our terminal.
