TAKE THE FIRST JOB YOU ARE OFFERED. Getting a job in the airlines today is a HUGE gamble. There are too many "what ifs" surrounding every airline. The only safe bet to me is SWA. But that could all change next week. Quick upgrade today gone tomorrow. Wholly owned today maybe not next year. Too many variables to think about. Take the first one and hold on for the ride.

ASA, it is that simple. You are going to be there for a very long time, so pick the choice that has the better long term outlook. ASA will also get a new contract, with potentially big raises within the next year or two. CHQ is locked into their current contract for the next 5 yrs (I believe it is 5, not sure). Then add on a min of 2 years to negotiate, (thanks to our BS provisions under the RLA), and they will see their next contact in 2011 or 2012. At any rate, go where you will be happy for at least 5 years or for possibly your career.

I am sure you have heard it before go for the lifestyle. ASA will get effected by DAL's outcome but think about it if DAL is getting smaller ASA and Comair will grow they will use small and more efficient planes to get people to their hubs to get on the big planes. CHQ might get effected with Us airways and DAL.

On top of that just like everyone is saying ASA does have good contract and yes it is growing. Who know if DAL goes under and our 70 seater clause goes away we might turn those next 25 50seaters we are getting into 70seaters. The way I see it(my own personal opinion) I think ASA will grow instead of going backwards.

And think about do you want ALPA to back you up or those train people TEAMSTERS to back you up that is the reason CHQ pilots arent paid much. Becuase ALPA knows how to negoitiate. Again personal opinion.

GO FOR LIFESTYLE.......

Not to knock ALPA, but if the bold statement is so true, whats that whole RJDC thing all about?

It was a 4 year deal signed 1 year ago. 3 years left, 2.5 until renegotiations start.

This isnt a Mesa bash at all, But Mesa Is ALPA, right?

See my post above. If DAL goes chapter 11, you:

1. may not be wholly owned for long
2. may not get that "big contract you want"

Like I said, you cannot tell me or anyone the long-term stability of any airline let alone regionals.

website?

Does anyone have website info or know how to apply with ASA??? Are they listed under another name on aviationinterviews.com?

Comair goes on strike for 89 days. Gambles it all.

Cha pilots say, "hey! lets go cheap and maybe we can get some of the flying Comair is going to do !".

This is the kind of people you would be associated with.

Not a single FO I fly with has a good thing to say about the CHa pilots when we see one of their planes at our terminal in CVG.

Usually it is something in the order of "scumbags, whores, back stabbers".

Just telling you how it is.

hmmmm..

Go to CHQ. I have worked for ASA for almost 2 years. The QOL at ASA is horrible. Reserve sucks, most lines are built around 75 hours with 10 days off... I looked at CHQ lines commuting to work one day and they are much, much better than ours. We have no min day or duty rigs. If those things change in the new contract, ASA will be a good regional. I think if you compare a capt at CHQ and one at ASA i would bet the CHQ pilot makes more money flying the 90 hour lines and getting many more than 10 days off. Yes i know the top 15% of the lines at ASA are great...... ASA 300 hr wonder pilots flame away..

Its all in your head, But do whatever it takes to make sure you dont feel guilty about calling other pilots whores.

They're all haters.

I love it too when I'm in CVG and I'll hear some gay remark about us over ops, but I've never had anyone come say something to my face.

Don’t get me wrong I’m itching for a chance to fly one but what I am hearing is a 10-year Capt. will be a 57.00/hr that’s defiantly not going to do it for the pay they are offering.
actually it is $77/hr

Everyone has brought up some very good points about both airlines...some points are a little misleading at times, though. I do agree with the statement that you should go with who hires you first.

But, after reading all of the posts I can't help but wonder. If CHQ is so bad, as many posts are saying, then why is it that you never hear CHQ crews complaining? They always seem to be very happy with their QOL and contract and their company and growth prospects. These sentiments range from CHQ's most senior Captains to the most junior FOs.

You hear nothing but complaining on these websites from other airlines but you'll never meet a CHQ crew that denies a jumpseater, complains about pay, complains about schedules, complains too much about bases, complains about junior manning(CHQ doesn't have it), etc. etc.

So, when choosing any company to work for, not just an airline, it may be worth it to look to see how happy the employees are as whole. I'm sure it is just a product of coming to a website like these, so I don't like to this generalization...but it seems that CHQ seems happy with their place in the airline industry whiles others on this thread are looking for (or complaining about) greener pastures.

This is just an uneducated observation from me and has no statistical data to back it up.

These people know they screwed themselves and every one else in the Regional world. They know they would look even more foolish if they complained

Right buddy, how did I screw myself or anyone else when I got a pay raise and QOL improvement with the last contract. Have you ever heard that $hit rolls downhill? Tell me how your next contract is going to be sooooooooo great when your buddies at mainline take a huge pay cut??

I tell you what, you are an embarrassment to COmair or wherever you work. We have some guys like you here and let me say I am glad I do not have to fly with them very often.

I find it funny that many of you feel that we at CHQ sit around the crew room and decide how best to screw you. If you are unhappy, then go somewhere else. If you dont like what CHQ is doing - please tell Bryan Bedford. He is the CEO.

As for QOL, I know a lot of guys at other regionals that have it much worse. But what do I know, I have only been with the company 7 months. Oh yeah, I have 18 days off and a commutable schedule for October. God this company sucks : )

BTW - do you guys go to Walmart and tell the greeter that he is a whore??? Its just a job man...
