About the hat thing...

I agree that we need to wear the hat. It is a part of our uniform. Now, here's a little insight as to why you might be seeing some of our guys without their hat. Bancroft, the hat maker, just got a huge order from the military for hats (this according to the lady I spoke with when I called inquiring about my own Captain hat). So, naturally, being business savvy and knowing where their bread gets buttered, Bancroft is gonna fill the Military order first as opposed to a much smaller clientele of newly upgraded Captains at Chautauqua. The military is, after all, a much larger customer. This is why it took me two and a half months for me to receive my Captain's hat, which I was very happy to receive. Now I can make cmrflyer happy by wearing my hat and being just as professional as he is.

So, cmrflyer, if you ever see one of our pilots not wearing their hat, you can walk up to them and congratulate them on their recent upgrade. Or if you can't be happy for them, just assume that their hat is on back order and keep it to yourself. Or if you're having a bad day and really need to vent, you can certainly feel free to express your opinion to me next time I fly through CVG.

I agree with the hat thing as well. Al though it does seem that the hat is disappearing pretty quickly......

jetBlue - no hats
Northwest - hats no longer required
SWA - hats optional

No one should be bragging about upgrades at any company. Its almost completly out of your hands. Once you get hired you get a number, When your number comes up, you upgrade. Unless you are behind the scenes arranging to get new airplanes, then you are just waiting in line like everyone else to take the checkride and upgrade.

jigga what?

It is so cool that you are getting pic time and when the majors start hiring in ten years you will be the first to get a job, at least you better hope you are because by then you'll be so in debt.
But at least you be able to tell all your flight school friend that you are a big "airline" captain, just don't tell them what you make or who you work for.
Where did this come from? As if a 5 or 6 year FO has a better W2 than a second or third year captain? Everybody knows how good Comair's contract is, but I gotta call WTF on this one.

It's all luck guys. How quickly you upgrade has nothing to do with your skill as an aviator and even less to do with your decision-making abilities.

You interviewed, you got hired, and beyond that its out of your hands. Nobody knows whether the airline will grow or shrink. Nobody knows whether attrition will increase or decrease or stop altogether.

A pilot could show up at Chautauqua today and upgrade in 2 years. Another pilot could show up to Chautauqua in October and it might take 10 years! There are too many external factors that influence how quickly an upgrade will occur to play guessing games.

You make the best decision you can at the time, and hope that it all works out.

If US Airways liquidates Chautauqua may suddenly find themselves badly overstaffed. If US Airways AND United were to liquidate, i'd guess that the 2 year upgrade would suddenly become stagnation, downgrades, and furloughs.

Lets all cross our fingers that it doesn't come to that.

flyingtoist,

You are a DOUCHE!!! Why don't you hop on over to GA board? If we need an opinion on what to if we have a rough mag we'll wait for you to get done with your touch and goes in your "own airplane". Back to the subject, those rats at Mesa are upgrading guys with 6 months on the B1900!! I personally know one guy who got this and I wouldn't hire him to fly rubber dog sh*t out of Hong Kong. Raised eyebrows over a 6 month upgrade is justified, but over a 2 year upgrade is jealousy. C U next time.

Maybe you should,
I'm sure your two years with chq has given you vast insight into the aviation industry(at least the very bottom of it).

P.S. If you guys at chq want to play pilot, at least start wearing you hats, the least you could do is try to look a professional
"The hat..." You must be joking right? What's next, my daddy could beat up your daddy? GET A LIFE!!! Why don't you sit in the commuter gates at CVG for about 15 minutes and start counting the CMR pilots NOT wearing their hats... Who the hell cares about the hats anyway?

By the way it's "YOUR HATS", NOT "you hats"...

If you want to play pilot, LEARN PROPER GRAMMAR!!!

That might not be such a bad job if it's for Cathay Pacific. :D

It completely astonishes me that we can stoop so low. If it really makes you feel like more of a man to belittle others..whatever. You don't fly for someone with a better contract because you are something special...no sir, they just happened to be the first to call you, so stow it. Chautauqua is A-o.k in my book. I E-mailed the CHQ CEO last week personally, and got a personal response within 24 hours. Quality outfit. I have been impressed from day one, and this is my third regional, due to this lovely rollercoster ride.

CHQ Rocks!!:)

You know PD, I was gonna try and possibly get some more opinion out of you but you know what? I really don't give a sh!t. That said, you wanna call me a whore, go ahead. You know what, whore's get paid and whore's get laid. I do both. Also, keep in mind that 2nd year pay at CHQ is currently higher than that of Comair. I believe that Comair 2nd year pay is high 30's. At CHQ, it's 28 for the first six months and 54 for the second six months. That average out to 41/hour. Not great, but not to shabby, at least not by Comair standards. Besides, I must be having a problem with my eyes, because I just don't see anyone giving a sh!t about your opinion. Hate all you want. It doesn't change the game.
