You tellin me that someone that graduated lets say 1/02 is already a captain?

"You can tell that Delta Connection Academy is owned by an airline because it focuses on pilot training and orienting students to the airline operating environment," said Chautauqua Capt. Matthew Bell, a 2002 academy graduate. "The quality and breadth of the academy's programs helped me achieve my goal to be an airline pilot."

Scary, isn't it. The rumor is that they are upgrading people at CHQ now that have been there about 1.5 years. I don't think anyone expects that to continue.

just wondering, why all the hub bub about a chq fo upgrading in less than 2 years. i know that is scary quick, but what is your basis? not trying to incite a riot.

Probably because ASA Captains with five years are about to be displaced to the right seat as the ATR goes away. Some of these guys have been displaced twice, once off the E120, to the right seat, then flew the RJ and upgraded again on the ATR, just to see that airplane go away also, while CHQ RJ's are backfilling flying they used to perform.

If CHQ has a two year upgrade, that's rockin in todays world....

What do you expect...

CHQ signed a contract that sent the whipsaw their way, mother Delta will always punish those who try to raise the bar, ie ASA. Its a sheetty business.

Not intenended to piss anybody off... but I'm sure it will, last round of upgrades most junior was 2/20/03 hire. I just upgraded last month, I was an 11/02 hire. This will come to an end soon, with 1000 pilots on the property now a new hire today needs a lot of airplanes to make captain. I'm sure some Xjet or Comair FO is dying to call us all whores, becuase I make 59 per hour as opposed to 64 and upgrade in <2 years. Trust me though I could give a F*CK you can keep your five dollars an hour and the right seat.

I wouldnt say that Comair has had 0 growth since there contract, in fact they have grown steadily.

Quick upgrades are going to be shortlived because of the quick growth a year ago. Not to mention the fact that CHQ is losing all Delta MCO flying to Gulfstream, AA is forcing the AmericanConnection operation to stop, and USAirways is going to liquidate next month.

Well said jborsdrf . Congrats on your quick upgrade and ignore all the sour grapes from the FO's making industry leading 5 year + FO pay.

Fly for my airline for half the pay and I will upgrade you in 6 months. Then I will find someone who can upgrade in another 6 to put you back to the right seat. If you don't like it, I will hire a "XYZ academy graduate" who is getting hard (or wet) by flying right seat with 300 hrs..

People like you is the reason I stay away from this business and fly my own airplane.. wish it wasn't the case though..

flyingtoist,

Fly for HALF the pay??? You dont know what your talking about, its literally 2 or 3 dollars difference for a majority of the pay scale (ASA being the example in this thread). Also, the academy graduates have been instructors (at the academy) for a while and have more than 300 hours. Otherwise, how would the academy run?

im glad your flying your own plane

Flytoist,

My example is CHQ vs Comair, the best vs the worst according to the many unhappy masses on this board. I don't really understand your comment about about half pay or me being moved to the right seat by some guy from the Delta Academy with a large hard on. Last I checked we weren't upgrading or downgrading on the size of one's member. I'm sure your 900 hours of Piper time, your dad bought, has given you an understanding and depth for this industry far deeper than mine so I'll just crawl back to the left seat and watch for you on TCAS.

Maybe you should,
I'm sure your two years with chq has given you vast insight into the aviation industry(at least the very bottom of it). It is so cool that you are getting pic time and when the majors start hiring in ten years you will be the first to get a job, at least you better hope you are because by then you'll be so in debt.
But at least you be able to tell all your flight school friend that you are a big "airline" captain, just don't tell them what you make or who you work for.

P.S. If you guys at chq want to play pilot, at least start wearing you hats, the least you could do is try to look a professional

The hat thing, well, that is pretty much deserved...
The other BS comments, not so much. The funny thing is that the guys who bitch the most and embarass their company the most on here are the least experienced ones. Oh yea, if you want to keep telling your friends @ the flight school in 5 years, YOU ARE A BIG AIRLINE FO, feel free.
