And...I somehow think by him flying the 747 or 707, it cheapens all of us. "Look, so easy an actor can do it". Kind of like when Prince William soloed with 8 hours of training. They imply that it doesnt take much to be a pilot, so why should we pay them much.

All else aside, he is trying to put a positive spin on flying and pilots, and thats ok by me.

How is his flying a 74 or 70 cheapening all of us? He's been flying for decades, doesn't do it as his living, and has coin to do it as his pleasure (along with Kelly). He loves flying and doesn't have to go through security to do it, good on him!

He claims to "captain" his own 707. His type rating on the 707 has a SIC ONLY restriction. But he doesnt tell people that.

And his citation type rating has a VFR ONLY limitation.

Again, I think its cool that he wants to be a pilot, just dont mislead people.......ie...if I had a small bit part in a movie, could I claim to be a movie star.

I think it's great that he loves to fly and is able to support his hobby, but that doesn't mean that he should be wearing the uniform of a Quantas Captain.

You can honestly say that "non believers" don't ask existential questions?

I can't say that non-believers don't ask existential questions, only that when we don't get simple answers, or we do get simple answers that we can't accept, we are comfortable with it. Of course I can't speak for every "non-believer".

If you are saying belief in God is a simple answer, you are wrong. The simple answer to me is that there is nothing, yet we see the evidence of design in every part of life. You wouldn’t walk up to your jet and think that no one designed it, that as complex as it is, as purposeful as it is, it just came to be because of accident, chance and raw materials. The best example though is in the lines of code in your computer. They aren't even nearly as complex as the information contained in the DNA/RNA of a simple cell, but you would believe that one is designed software and the more complex is an accident? Does that really make sense? Is that scientific to look at evidence and determine that if one thing has a design, that it must have a designer EXCEPT the natural world and universe?!? Or is it a bias against the thought of God? Bernard Shaw once said (paraphrased) that he would always be an atheist as it was easier… to be an atheist meant that there was no accountability for the actions of his life.

If you aren’t religious, fine. Believe it or not, that doesn’t bother me. If you are offended by the thought of God, doesn’t really bother me, just have a bit of intellectual honesty and at least do some research before you cast those aspersions.

I do think its cool that a bigwig likes to fly airplanes. My only comments to this discussion, is that I have first hand info that says he is not a good person to fly co-pilot foron the 707. Not sure if it was a safety issue or ego, but my friend told him to call him if he really needed someone. (Basically was not impressed). The other thing is why is he flying around in a Quantas plane? Cant he support (or be supported by) an American Airline?

His 747-400 type rating is not recognized by the FAA.

Where did he go to get a type rating that is not recognized by the FAA???

I can't comment on his not being a good person, I never met the man however I do know first hand that many actors/actresses are AHoles!

Yeah many have and will continue to be drawn to the skies and there isn't much you or I will be able to do about it. I hear what you're saying and I agree with you but waht can we really do about it?

my man, it's not like he's lying on his FedEx application.

Please tell me why you care what he says. It's no money in (or out) of our pockets either way. The man likes to fly. More power to him.

If he loves the profession so much- anyone ever ask him to walk the line with us? Maybe give us some good PR instead of the usual b/s alpa ad "contract now!!!!!!!!!" - what's that supposed to do anyway?

Maybe the politicians wouldn't find it so easy to squash any strike options if the public were not under the illusion that we all make $150k and work 20 hours a week doing nothing really- you know the autopilot really does it all. I'll never forget how many people truly DO NOT believe me when i tell them what i've made in my career.

That's the point, he doesn't make our jobs look easier to the general public just like like Harrison Ford and the rest of the posers. Help us don't throw us under the bus, A$$.
