Either you never have anything to drink on a layover or you're old. He might not have either problem.
 
Can I end this little DL discussion right now?

It doesn't matter if he has his DL. Wants/Warrant checks can be accomplished by running his name and DOB OR his DL#.

Also: It is very possible that a misdemeanor warrant for this matter no longer exists. In my home state, traffic warrants went away after seven years.

I'd be willing to bet that a similar procedure exists in Canada.
