Just announced at the share holders meeting. 10 additional orders for 787's total orders now at 20. Some of these new aircraft will replace 767-200. Also ordering an additional 24 NG737. They plan on parking some 737-300, but no exact number.

The 787s are going to replace the 767-200s? They're brand new. Gordon had them open up the -200 line in the late 90s, just so he could get them.

re:787 info

This might be a stupid question but will they be putting new hires into the right seat of the 787 or are all new hires going into the 73/75? Thanks.

Since they are not comming for a few more years the magic 8 ball says ask again later..................

I don't know of anyone going strait to the 777 yet so I doubt it.

Two guys did very early on in the hiring.

There hasn't been a new hire yet that has gone from new hire to 777 FO. One or two have been trained on the 777 under a year but none have gone straight to the 777 from the street as far as I know.

Just curious, I'm a low timer so bare with me here. Got 920/150. I might get a job if all goes well for the interview with Commute Air for Beech 1900D's Would I be thinking realisticly to be flying for continental in a few years, grab a bunch of turbine time, a good amount PIC, and get hired with Continental? Since they do feeder for continental, does that help? I heard I have to get jet time in order to even get considered, just wondering if thats true.
Thanks

In the end you have to know somebody to get considered. Really doesn't matter how or where you get your time. There are alot of people with thousands of 121 PIC and multiple internal references that are still waiting for a call. Just something to consider in this tough job market.

Then the guy last year on the south street bus who just got back from Narita was lying through his teeth.

Ya he must of been. Guys on the bus usually are so honest too.

What I think Neal was saying was that nobody has had the choice of 777 as a new hire, only 737 or 756. That being said, on day one you have the right to put 777 at 100% on your standing bid (I wouldn't, but to each their own.) Come August or February when the vacancies are posted, if you have the seniority then you get it. Those 3 folks at the bottom of the 777 probably got the award on one of the last 2 system bids.

That is exactly what I was saying.

The bottom 3 guys in EWR B77 FO are '05 hire.

Actually, only 1 of the bottom 3 are '05 hires and he was in the 113 group and actually posts on this forum from time to time. :) The other 2 were hired in 2001, furloughed, then recalled in 2005.

While I realize the mystic that so many people have with the 777, realize also that it only goes to a handful of places. London, Paris, India, and China come to mind. Plus you'll be an IRO forever!!! There are 3 times as many FO's on the 777 as there are CA's. As a recent newhire onto the 756, I'm doing my fair share of IRO and deadheading. At least I have TONS more variety. For me personally, 756 is perfect and I've got no plans whatsoever of bidding of these great airplanes until I can hold a captain slot on at least a 737. But, to each his own.

Doesnt hurt that your locked in the 756 for a couple years either....:) (less upgrading to the 777 of course)

I like you plan on hanging out on my current equip for awhile. Would love to fly the 756 but enjoying the flexiblility and seniority on the 737. (54 percent after only a year.)

No no no .... I think you should go to the 756. I hear the flying is awesome! :D

I personally like the productivity on the 777. Yes only a few places but more than half are 25-31hr 3 or 4 days. Jr. lineholders can generally hold 18 days off. It looks like, at least initially, pbs is going to be spreading out the flying on the 777 so days off will still be good but total line values will be lower for all but the very top. Being an IRO on the 777 isn't so bad. You will find an iro trip to anywhere besides Europe is more senior than a flying trip to Europe. When deadheading you are almost always offered a bunk as well by the CA. I've only been on it for a few months but see myself sitting on it for a while. I have been making more than if I had bid 737 ca reserve but that is going to change with pbs I am sure. fwiw
