Are C130J's RVSM?

Anyone, anyone, Buehler, anyone?

the military is not exempt from rvsm, the t-6, t-1, and t-38 are definitely not rvsm'd. the kc-135 is though

Our C130H are not RVSM however I wasn't sure about the J's. Some have said they are but I can't find official guidance.

So, instead of finding official guidance I figured I would come to the "unofficial" official guidance of FI.com.

Thanks

When I stopped flying them in December, they were not

They still ain't.

yes the J model can get above FL290 (i've had it to 370) and the fleet is under the RVSM mod now. I believe it will be released with block 6.0

Hey, Slacker, I just saw your picture on a greeting card. It looked very . . . . . nice.

C-130J: Slacker you are correct!

C-130J will be RVSM compliant witht he block 6.0 upgrade. Fleet due completion by first quarter CY 10.

RNP-4 compliant with block 7.0 (FY 2011) and CPDLC/FANS capable with block 8.0( fFY 2013).

With all that the aircraft will be 30/30 compliant.

the military *IS* exempt from RVSM requirements. A lot of their long haul stuff (heavies, tankers, etc) are equipped/certified, but any military planes non-rvsm equipped may fly in RVSM airspace if atc chooses to allow it (ie. workload permitting, since, then 2k sep will be required).

I'm jealous.... the highest I've ever flown my leaky-E model was 27...

In 1987 I took a leaky E-model to FL310 off the coast of France during one of their (many) ATC strikes. Talk about hanging on the props! But it had to be done to get back to Moldyhole.

Two years later coming out of Stockholm near empty, we were comfortably at FL 290, and the engineer said we could 'prolly make 330. Asked the controller, and we were DENIED!!! Don't need no stinking prop-trash garbaging up the central european airspace.
Drats.

You can tell the 6.0 birds are the one's with painted markings around the critical pitot-static area. As far as I can tell, 6.0 did not include any hardware changes to the altimetry systems, it just coincided with the "certification" of the Air Data Computer, autopilot etc.

Certification, along with GPWS terrain feature like the airliners have.

I cannot believe no one has bashed the J model yet!

The J doesn't have GPWS. I believe you must be thinking of TAWS. And the J sucks- the air conditioners make me too cold in the summer. does that make you happy dftl?

;) I thought you knew him better than that! ;)

I agree one hot Mississippi summer I was cold as hell from the A/C didn't help that my BDU's were soaked in sweat.

That ain't nothin'....

Every time you say that you make Jake smile...you love Jake.

GPWS..TAWS...whatever the f*ck we call it...it does the same frickin thing. And we are supposed to get the terrain shading are we not?
Not like you staff pukes will ever get close to terrain! AAA HA HA. DRAY made me say it

I'm gonna bash the J model too...

"I HATE that POS smaller microwave in the stretch version....."

GPWS & GCAS are very similar. TAWS is completely different. As a staff puke, I should be asking you if we are supposed to be getting the terrain shading. But, yes that's what TAWS is. At least this staff puke knows what equipment is on the plane.

The new microwave sucks. I want the jumbotron on the stubbies. Also, can we get an approach plate holder worth a crap. For f#ck sake, how much would a C-130 cost with a freaking approach plate holder that I could see or held a freaking book?!??!

Back in the late '60s the Navy got an empty Q model up to FL440. Q is basicly an E with -16 (same as -15) motors.

GPWS on commercial aircraft have terrain modeling. Trust me..I flew one the other day...except they call it EGPWS..the E allows them to add the features but not rename it, reprint books, and pay the manufacturer millions for a system that does the same thing but has a new name.
I havent touched a J model since Oct and my brain has been flooded with MD88 information..so forgive me if I forget the name of the system that does the same thing as the one with the other name!

And I cant believe you are complaining about APP plate holder. YOU of all people...you always take it off the yoke!

I bet the AF didnt include that in the contract. Just like they kept the old POS Quick dons..which, BTW...I dont believe anyone can actually don in 5 secs. (FAA)

The jumbotron you refer to was a staple of my childhood. Trek up to 7-11...spend $3 on comic books, candy, a MASSIVE GULP drink and a crappy microwave cheeseburger which was heated in that same Jumbotron microwave. aaah the days....
and whatever remained was deposited into the pinball machine. First Supersonic, then KISS, then replaced with Robotron video game. Then...Dig Dug..and it all went downhill.......
