Re: Re: another take
John Wayne, if you'll recall Gulf War 1, Saddam did everything in his power to draw Israel into the fight, while we did everything in our power to keep them out of it. Once Israel attacks an Arab country, all bets are off. We really don't want to get in the middle of another Arab-Israeli war.
Here's where I start to sound like a Libertarian: we are not the world's cops, it isn't up to us to right every wrong, to punish every country that breaks the rules. The US is not directly threatened by Saddam Hussein; the US military being deployed presently isn't going to fight for our freedom or our way of life. They're being sent to protect our "street cred", which this President Bush believes has been called into question. Our troops have my unwavering support, for many of them are close friends--but I deeply regret and resent their being used as pawns in such "bubba brinkmanship".
Typhoon, you're absolutely correct--on both points. Israel must be weaned off of the US. Unfortunately, it'll never happen; far too much Jewish money finds its way into campaign coffers every election year for that.Typhoon1244 said:The down side is that such a massive infusion of support for Israel would make us an even bigger target for Islamic terrorists. If, on the other hand, we armed the he_l out of the Israelies over a couple of years and then never sent them another dime (i.e. no more Middle Eastern involvement for the U.S.), that might do the trick.
Even if you are a Bush "sheep" (just kidding!), I think you've got a teriffic idea...nobody'll go for it, though.
