Yes I would rather drive a truck and have money than fly for food... Driving is temporary until I finish a useful degree. By the way I went to school before 9/11 and have 900 hours in a king air.... And yes I was brainwashed when I was 20 years old, but now I have grown up and economic reality has set in.

Good. Then quit your Bitzhein and move on. The airline industry wont miss you and will survive without your services.

you want a job or you want lunch? even when i interviewed and was hired at major corporations (non aviation and more $ than wp) i didnt get lunch. i went to interview for a job, not to see if they'd buy me a lunch.

you need to go find something else to do until you can get the bigger picture in your head. you sound like you want to be courted like a princess...its a pilot job.

to help lessen future suffering, you should include in your resume's line for "objectives": "to work for a company that will buy me lunch at the interview". dont forget to include in your cover letter that you require lunch and cold refreshments.

You Failed

How am I supposed to worry about finding a way to bring my lunch to the interview? Take a taxi to subway and carry it around all day?

This WAS part of the interview process. You FAILED the problem solving portion. You just saved them the time from asking, "What would you do if you were in a critical situation?"

Stay on the mainland, I don't want to hear about what is "owed" to you in this industry.

You guys have fun living in your mud huts and driving a beat up car.... I bet you pick up a lot of chicks on the 26k a year salary.

You guys just dont get it....Why does a UPS driver start out at 35k a year and a airline pilot starts out at 18k ??? How can you live in hawaii on that? I guess all you guys have rich parents and can do it. I have bills to pay and making money is more important than flying airplanes. If a job comes around that pays me a wage I can live on,than I would be more than happy to take it. I have paid enough dues to deserve a 35k a year job. 2000 hours and 900 multi. Plus 60k for my flight training! I dont think its too much to ask. Im not expecting to fly a GV and make 100k a year. Just to be able to pay my bills. To be honest 35k a years is hardly enough for a mortgage and car payment.

Well brah, then quit your f*&%#@n bitchin and go drive your brown truck in your tight a*& brown shorts like RJP said.

One suggestion, and correct me if Im wrong, PW is currently hiring Captains, and from what I hear 55K to start. One thing great about that is that in HNL if I come across you struting around in your 4 stripes it will give me the opportunity to lock you in a suitcase.

What a donkey! thank heaven your disgruntled about coming out here, now we dont have to worry about your complaing a##! It was a set-up all along brah!

Guys I think we all owe airludy an apology. I didn't realize he has NINE HUNDRED HOURS in a King Air! I'm a little suprised that Island Air didn't send a private jet to bring him to the interview.

why am i not suprised that you'd be one of those people that believe we live in grass shacks or mud huts?

well, since you were so sincere in wishing us well, let me return the favor.

have fun looking for students, dining on skittles when its payday and making tomato soup from McD's ketchup packets the rest of the time. have fun with your 4 cfi roommates in your 1 bedroom apartment. hopefully you'll be able to find a school that lets you wear captains uniforms, that way you and your friends can walk around pretending to be airline pilots.

please let us know when you find a cfi job that buys you lunch, we're very concerned about your future.

If 1000 of you had nuts like me, regionals would have to start paying us 35k a year to start. Supply and demand. Im really starting to believe in this SJS thing.

I believe that the Jetblue crew should get paid $200K each for their skills and professionalism, I believe that teachers should be paid twice as much, as well as firefighters. I think we should have solar/wind energy plains and electric cars in Hawaii. So whats your fukking point? The realilty is that it aint happening (yet) and you have a choice; to which you chose to drive a brown van. Wise choice, I say, if your heart is not in aviation. But please spare us the bitching and let us drown in our own sorrow and ignorance. Aloha

Mud huts? All this time I've been looking for a grass shack to rent and there are fucking mud huts somewhere out here? Cuz, whea dem mud kine huts stay?

$26k a year? Not even close brah. Try $20k. Are you trying to say that's the reason chicks don't dig me? Whew! At least it's not my looks.

grass shack? mud huts?!? I'll have you guys know I live in an old lava tube in upcountry Maui. Guess that's cause I fix airplanes instead of fly them. Wait a minute, I do fly, just not for $$$.

As to the original poster of this thread, Wal Marts having a big sale on crying towels now and usually has a cheap lunch available

Your mom thought my mud hut was nice. I picked her up at Femme Nu in my 1982 Datsun.

Isnt it 80 degrees there all year long? Maybe I could just sleep in my tent. Then I might have enough to buy food.

Back in the Summer of 2000 when I interviewed with American Airlines and Delta Airlines neither provided lunch for the interviewees.

Maybe I should have turned those interviews down.

The fact that you guys have 1000 hours, the opportunity to fly turbine aircraft for a 121 carrier, and are finding things to bitch about shows what idiot's you are. I jumpseated to Wichita from Honolulu 3 hours after recieving an interview offer with my present employer. I recieved no lunch, no plane ticket, no hotel room, etc. I did get the job however. To me, that's what was important.

No dude its just the lunch thing....Its the fact they pay 20k a year to live in Hawaii. You have to pay for your own hotel in training. They sent me an email it said, "bring a brown bag lunch".Very tacky. Says alot about how the company treats there pilots. The girl told me on the phone that they were having a hard time finding people to interview. Gee I wonder why? Hey there is a open interview slot in October, since I wont be there. You guys can jump all over it.

American and Delta, you should have turned them down, hindsight is 20/20 so who am I to judge.

Airlady just thinks that because he paid $60,000 and has 1600 hrs as a CFI he now deserves a job and it should behanded to him, I bet it would be a joy to flya 4 day with him!

There's a lot of people with this attitude in this industry, and all they dois bitch and moan, never take action. I'm glad youdidn't take the interview, I don't work for Island Air but we don't need more people like you flying around.

...and when you come crawling back to Island Air for a job all these will fit inside of a brown bag for your lunch.

Nah. You're thinking of Pac Wings. They'd take you though. You'll get to lift heavy baggage (similar to UPS truck-driver), you'll get to work long, hot hours each day (similar to UPS truck-driver), you get to command (eventually) a vehicle with only one motor (similar to UPS truck-driver) and you can even wear shorts (similar to UPS truck-driver). Maybe you should check them out. E-mail me a resume and I can drop it by their counter later today.

Free lunch

Ironically, your present employer (UPS) does not pay for lunch or transportation to an interview for pilots either and they made 3.6 Billion in profit last year. Could be all of the money they are saving on lunch.

I don't understand why everyone is piling on this guy. He turned down an interview with Island Air.

You never answered his question about how he's going to live in Hawaii on 20k a year. I'm curious myself. Most likely it's by drudging out an existence of staying in a two bedroom crappy apartment with 5 other guys and eating ramen. How is that a step up?

With 2000 hours, and 900 king air, this guy actually could get a good job paying 35k as a SIC in a king air, so this job isn't for him. Should he figure that out after he pays his own way to Hawaii and puts himself up in a hotel for training? You can't jumpseat to Hawaii if you're not currently employed.

Yeah and sounded like a crying fool in doing so.

"I mean what a joke, bring your own lunch. I'm interviewing half way across the planet and they want me to worry about finding lunch to bring to the inteview. What I joke! I have more pride than to lower myself to this cheap industry. Its definatly time for a career change." airludy

Yep. It's all about the "O", as in how you manage the OPTAR.
