Boeing is about to embark on the longest, non-stop jetliner flight
ever attempted without air refueling. The company plans to take
advantage of the 777-200LR's range to shatter the distance record
it established in 1997 with the 777-200ER. The newer jet will
attempt to fly non-stop for more than 24 hours in early October.
The 777-200LR, which has three auxiliary fuel tanks, will reportedly
take off from a city in Asia and land a day later in London.
The flight path would take the crew over the Pacific, North
America and the Atlantic.

How many bottles of water does the crew get...? ;) :p TC

how many crews will that take.

God could you imagine breathing stale air for 24hrs?

With all that polar radiation, you won't be breathing long...

I once did a 21+ hr flight from Washington DC to Seoul with one air refueling and a 3-person crew. Wasn't the most fun I've ever had.

A normal airline = probably 2 full crews and 2 relief officers.

Jetblue = they're giddily applying for a single crew waiver as I type ... just one leg you know. :D

Line guy: Do you have a fuel order, sir?
Captain: Uhhh, yeah, top it off...you may need another truck...or two...or three.

I hope they take a deck of cards...and their wives/girlfriends for something to do.

I can hear it now ... "I only work 3 days a month!"

Wonder if they'll still be required to clean the cabin after their flight? :D

I just deadheaded the other "day" (HKG-ICN-ANC-JFK) and it nearly took that long but I'm already bald so no big loss with the radiation....

1649A Constellation

As impressive as that is, TWA used to fly the 1649A Constellation from Paris to San Francisco in something just under 23 hours non-stop. This would have been around 1956,57, early 58. Three pilots, two FE's, two navigators.

I was part of a crew in 1966 that ferried an ex Lufthansa 1649 from Hamburg to Oakland in 21:50. So these really exceptionally long flights are not that new but rather it is the distance that they travel.

With my luck I would still get stuck in front of the screaming brat kicking the back of my seat for 24 hrs.

Hey BBB,

Long time, no insults! Just noticed the rating section of your Avatar. Don't they type rate the F/O's over there at big brown?
