Just so you guys know, this is not a displacement. No one can lose their current seat if it is a vacancy. If 50 captains do not want to go to JFK/DTW, then FO's who do will. From the companies point of view, they are probably hoping that 50 captains from MSP and MEM want to go to DTW/JFK, then they will not backfill the spots that those captainst left in MEM/MSP.

Where this could turn into a displacement is if not enough captains leave msp and mem, thus allowing Fo's to bid those spots for upgrades. That would leave the company with too many captains still and then they would probably change the vacancy to displacements which would be bad for them becuase they would have to pay and bad for junior captians in mem/msp.

Another thing to think about when bidding though is where do you want to be pre sli? We probably will have another vacancy before then but you never know.

RJLOSER: The ca's will be upgrades. fo's will most likely be new hires.

ok what you guys said is entirely inaccurate. This is a realignment/displacement (did you not read the memo?). There will no longer be 120 9e captains is msp, more like 70-80. this is not a vacancy to add additional captain positions at pinnacle, this is a realignment. Those msp/mem captains & FOs will be displaced (unfortunantly). It is true that those msp captains wont get downgraded if they are senior enough to hold a captain slot elsewhere... but yes lots of dispacements

Cougar- the memo specifically states "vacancies will be created". Where did you see the word displacements?

-sounds like you are the one that did not read the memo

Read the next paragraph ding dong. Vacancies are a part of displacements. Those positions are being created to accommodate the pilots from the positions that have been reduced.

All the memo has said is that there will be a vacancy. Not a displacement. They said they hope not to displace.

Plan looks like: a) Vacancy announcement to move some pilots cheaply b) reduce cost of displacement by getting new Contract c) Displace pilots to finish realignment at a lower cost than currently and do it before SLI so that the number of base movements are limited.

Dispacements for FO's probably will be minimized because new-hires will fill JFK and DTW while people upgrading out of MEM and MSP will not be backfilled. CA Dispacements are almost a foregone conclusion, most MEM/MSP do not want to leave.

I just read both the current Mesaba and Pinnacle section 24's. The verbiage used in the two sections is different. In Mesaba's contract a 'Realignment Notice' includes what is called a 'Displacement' in Pinnacle's contract. It appears management is using the verbiage in Mesaba's contract. That suggests the JCBA uses the Mesaba contract language and management is using this 'memo' to satify some of the notification requirements. They would not but this memo out just for general information.

This is going to make the SLI even messier. They are displacing a lot of CA's out of PCL's most senior bases. The reinstatement rights better be good.

thus allowing Fo's to bid those spots for upgrades. That would leave the company with too many captains still
What are you smoking? We are so short on CAs, upgrading 50 CAs system wide we would still be short on Captains.
