B-737 type rating for SWA hurt you elsewhere?

Hey guys, this may have been addressed somewhere else, if so, I apologize. But anyway...

Lets say I get my B737 type and end up not getting hired at SWA. Will this hurt me when applying to other majors? A friend of mine said that his buddy can't get hired on now elsewhere because the other airlines see that SWA is his first choice and give him trouble about it.

Any advice guys?

I was wondering about that too. Would another airline think, "If SWA didn't hire him, what the heck is wrong with this guy that we're not seeing?"

I can hear the interview now:

"So, I see you have a 737 type. How much time do you have in it?"
"None"

"So you bought the type to get in with SWA"
"Yes sir I did"

"Did you interview there?"
"Yes sir I did"

"And they didn't hire you?"
"No sir they didn't"

(pause)
"Well thanks for your time! We'll be in touch!"

JetBlue didn't care. I was offered a jobs today by JB and SWA.

I just got hired by a great airline (not SWA). I have the 737 type and was asked why I had paid to get typed in this aircraft. I think the way you respond to the question is more important than whether or not you have the type....

I had the type and was in the pool at SW when I interviewed at FedEx. It never came up, but I was prepared to talk about it. I don't think it will hurt you, but it would be something to be ready to discuss just in case.

Good friend of mine got the type at HPA, never called to interview at SWA and is now at CAL. It was never brought up in his interview.
