Livin,
Thanks for the warning. And guys that have a job shoukd consider that, but for those of us out of work, a crappy job is better than no job.

You are very correct with that statement. I was soon to be out of work and hired on at Airtran in 2005. It did not take long for me to see what the company was about, luckily I moved on to a place that is the polar opposite of Airtran. Nice group of pilots, just a different place to work.

Livin,

Be thankful you have a flying job, especially in this recession. Remeber, you chose to apply and fly for Air Tran. That advice goes for anyone who has a job in our current economic environment. If you dislike working for AirTran, quit and apply to Southwest when they start hiring first officers again. There are plenty of pilot applicants who would like to kick your butt out of an AirTran cockpit and put theirs' in it.

Have a nice day!

I did and it worked out! Hows coach?

Does valuejet have a flow through program to Ameriflight?
Its Valujet and I don't think too many of Airtran's senior captains making around $160K and putting $17K into their B-funds will be flowing to Ameriflight. I wish they would so I could end my 3 year reserve stint.

Woe is me.

Furloughs, bankruptcies, layoffs... How new do you have to be to not know these are part of an airline career?

From day 1 of flt school- you should be socking cash away for these scenarios and educating yourself in some sort of plan B field- if you're in such dire straights that you'd be inspired to write this kind of simplistic kool aid, you've been doing some things wrong for a while...

That said, I am very grateful for my life, god given brains and abilities, and for being both lucky and good enough to pass the interviews I have.

But here's a SECRET- if you want to change your lot in life- maybe you ought to focus more on what you should be grateful for, than what you think others ought to be

Yeah Valujet has one crash, lets look at DL,CAL,AA (LIT alone),UA, Lord knows USAIR. Then everyone should stay home. How many did DL kill in Dallas, USAir in their 737 crahsES or CAL in Denver.

If you don't like VJ, don't come ask for a jumpseat on us, like ALOT of you do !!!

Is it true the Amerijet guys will be getting priority for interviews?

No, but don't worry, I'm sure we could work something out when Southwest furloughs. You guys would be current on the 737, all we would have to do is teach you about autobrakes, VNAV and autothrottles, should be a snap! All you need is a passport since we fly out of the country. You would have to pay for a passport though, but I'm sure you wouldn't mind since you are used to paying for things, like your job.

Uh, if you compare the accident rates on a percentage basis of total flights flown & number of people carried over time then those other carriers are safer.

Great logic!!!!! I guess airlines should fly smaller planes that carry less passengers, while increasing the number of flights to carry the same amount which in turn would decrease the possibility of killing more passengers in a single event in a larger aircraft. BRILLIANT!!!! I bet Colgan, Comair and Mesa must be the safest airlines out there......

avoid airtran if you are going some where. Again they are victims of themselves. They cancelled over 40 flights yesterday due to lack of crews. They are trying to blame the pilots, of course, but the reality is the inept scheduling dept and the worse crew planning dept in the industry has struck again. Flights that are going but downgraded to a 717 will be oversold by 20 +. They haven’t taken delivery of a ac on over a year and they still cant figure out the staffing level .maybe they should furlough. They are trying to recovery from themselves by asking for favors from guys on there days off. 6 years of negotiations and you want a favor! Ha . Its your bed, lay in it.

what great advice! Haha! <<<------in a very sarcastic tone!

Moderator hat on:

Thread reviewed. Although the farm animals comment was "colorful", it's within the FlightInfo Terms of Service. I will give a warning to KEEP it within the TOS, that goes to EVERYONE.

Hey this is one of the more entertaining threads I've read...let em go at it!!! :)

Thanks for the update. I won't fly them nor will I put my family on them. Same old Value Jet just a different name.

why is it that when you need to take a shot at AT, some of you leap right to the old Valujet jab? What are you suggesting? AT pilots are incompetent? I would think there is hardly anyone working there that was ever employed by valujet. However go ahead and live in the past. what a bunch of tools.
