Hey all,

Just wanted to get some feedeback on road life at Atlas. 17, let alone 21 days is a ballbuster.

How busy are you one the road? How are the overnights/hotels and typical time at a particular location?

Do you fly with the same person the whole time or do you switch it up? 2 pilots? Or mx guy too?

It all helps, I appreciate it . . . oh, how's the healthcare? Thanks

Let someone else who thinks Atlas is a fantastic job have a chance at the slot...wait until the type of job your really want comes along...you will be happier, and maybe someone else will be happy at Atlas because of your decision not to apply.

I suggest you look elsewhere, if 17 days is too much. Try using the SEARCH function, there are many threads here about Atlas, and I'm sure you might find the answers you're looking for.
 
If you don't like that type of schedule look into pax carriers. At freight outfits the schedule doesn't get shorter with seniority while carrying people around you may be able to get a better bid as you move up the list.

I've been applying with Atlas for over eight years now, got several great friends working over there, only place I ever wanted to work being a single young man.

I was hired and awaiting class back in 2008, and was in the hiring pool for two years.

I was told in early spring of 2010 no class date would be offered, and i'd have to re-interview, Atlas was very nice about it over the phone, but what a debbie downer.

The sad part is that I passed up two great job offers while waiting on Atlas, thinking it woulld eventually come around with my class date.

That bites. One thing I found out in this industry is never pass on great offers hoping another will happen. Take the offer you have, and if and when the other offer arises, deal with the situation then.

I agree - a bird in your hand is worth two in the bush. Never ever "expect" anything in this business...
 
Tough time to be looking for work I know . . . as does Uncle Sam, I just don't wouldn't want to trade one devil for another . . . interesting mix of responses

If you want a less stressful flying job, consider applying to Delta ASAP. I hear they will be hiring 800+ pilots over the next two years. Delta loves military pilots and you probably already know some C-17 reservist pilots flying for Delta now - you should obviously network with them.

After flying the C-17, I imagine most flying (including 744F flying for Atlas) would be pretty boring anyways - you might as well get paid and have a decent QOL (i.e., no 21-day tours).

I have contacts. Understand that a big proportion of that total will go to Compass and Mesaba pilots (wholly owned by Delta). But, there will still be slots for others. Just sending out an FYI...

Thanks dumba$$. I have friends in high places at Delta - evidently you don't. Check out the Delta threads on the majors board for confirmation. Drop the attitude - I am just trying to provide some helpful advice for those who don't want 21-day tours.

Atlas Rocks!! Only been here a short time but it's my 2nd AMCI and I'm havin a great time!! AMCI is great, show up to work and off you go to wherever whenever around the world!!
 
Don't get me wrong, I think Atlas is a great option. I've always been a fan and wanted to fly the whale worldwide. I am just trying to suggest other alternative for those people who might not be able to handle the 21 day tours.

Back to our cargo-oriented programming...
 
I'm doing 18 day rosters now and I have to say that it isn't as bad as I envisioned before I started and the only 5' , 105 lbs. person that I have ever feared seem happy with the life style, but then again the direct deposit amount has a lot to do with it
 
Hi!

You have 17 days on and the rest of the month off. They can make you work through 21, but they have to pay a LOT for those 4 days.
Theoretically, you may get 34 days on in a row. Some guys want that so they have between 25-29 days off (the two months of days off combined), so they can do a 3 week vacation.
I'm not sure if you are on 34 days on, if they can extend you four more days?
If you ASK to be extended, and they need you, you will make more money.
One guy was TDY to Europe for a month (based in a hotel), and his wife flew out for that time...family travel benefits with DAL, was what I was told.

PS-I think it is a FANTASTIC job! If you want 4/3, or you want to know your scheduled of flying ahead of time, FORGET it!

What kind of schedules do they work out of the HSV base?
 
HSV-STN-LUX, rest 28 hours, LUX-HSV, rest 26 hours, HSV-MEX-GDL-HSV. Doing some Joeburg trips as well out of LUX.

Doesn't sound too bad. How much time off between turns in HSV? I live 20 minutes from the airport and this sounds like it would be a good job to have.
