Oh wow this thread speaks volumes...I'm gonna go drink a 40 now and continue to collect unemployment.

Will ASA celebrate the first time they have an all white ground crew work a plane? Will Cnn put them in the news? At least the whites would say stuff we all understand instead of using words like Axed.

You apparently haven't been to some of those "Good ol boy" stations have you? For many of them I have to get the red neck dictionary to translate and a dip cup for the van driver.

Here is some history for you:
First Flight - December 1903
First Afican American Pilot hired - 1964
First Female pilot hired - 1973
First AA female CPT - 1999

107 years to the first all AA female crew at any carrier. This is a milestone b/c it has never been done before. Even this day and age the percentage of minorities in aviation is very low. The sheer chance of having an all female crew much less an all AA female crew (double minority) is almost an impossibility. If this motivates even one female, black or white, to enter the field of aviation then the attention is well warranted.

The whole episode is funny, but then again, I may just think it's funny 'cause I'm a racist.

The whole "first blah, blah, blah" thing worries me not because they're black, but because they're women. That is scarry.

I don't care who you are, that episode was funny.

I guess by some inane sense of thinking you may be correct about women pilots as many men think, and I guess, fly w/ their di*k. Now thats scary ...

Here are a few simple questions for you:

-How many black guys/gals were at your flight school?

-How many were at your first airline? vs. white guys/gals

-If this field is not attractive to black/hispanic/asian/eskimo/albino/or who the hell ever else, why is that my fault?

-How is "the man" keeping anyone down when so few of these guys even want to fly in the first place?

-Let me suggest a few more ground-breaking firsts:
-The first all African-American polka band
-The first all African-American synchronized swimming team
-The first all African-American Yodeling team
-The first all-African-American Ford Pinto racing club
-The first all African-American accordion quartet

-There are simply some things that are not all that "cool" to certain ethnic groups, and aviation is not nearly as "cool" as some other careers to most black folks.

-Still my fault? I'm still the evil cracker racist? So be it!

You should seriously consider decaf...

But back to your questions:
1. Zero at my school
2. Maybe 4-5 when I was first hired
3. Never said it was anyones fault, that was your ASSumption.
4. What man do you speak of? Many people never consider flying as they may not have been exposed to it. As a child I flew to visit relatives every year. Others may never fly in their lifetime. Again if seeing this crew will inspire even one female, black or white, to enter aviation then the attention was well worth it.

Are you a "evil cracker racist"?
I wouldn't know as I don't know you. If you are then that is your evil demon to live with and hopefully one day you will change your views.

SWM

What will people do when all of the milestones have been accomplished? That's the real question. Why not live that way now?
