That is the part blacks don't get.

I guess you guys just don't get it. It really doesn't matter how you perceive it or what your whining is about. I guess that should have been almost predictable. However, one common thread for us all, is that we had some role model or other inspiration to pursue our goals. Whether it was another aviator, or a Mother who said, "Yes, You Can!", there was some catalyst and/or encourager in our life.

The way I see it, these Women exemplified good role modeling and their accomplishments will be recognized by the target audience that does get it and maybe needs positive examples that help them set higher goals to aspire. In my view, they more than accomplished that and history was made! Bravo to them and whoever had a part! It could empower dreamers to become future aviators! And Dreaming, isn't that where it all begins for all of us?

Honestly, I can't figure out what Morgan Freeman is getting at. I think he is just caught being an ass just for the sake of it.

I have always liked him as an actor, but unfortunately, this just proves that he is every bit at vacant and useless as others in Hollywood.

The real issue here is role models and values, something most of you guys on here dont understand or take for granted. She mentioned having a relative working as a pilot who inspired her to follow in his footsteps, do you think she would have been a pilot if it wasnt for that?

Now she can be an example to other young Black Girls or Women, and be a role model for them to follow, its good for our society. Most of you guys on here have family, relatives, neighbors, friends etc that inspired you to get into aviation (lol you probably hate them now!) how many black kids can say the same?

This gets to the heart of affirmative action, the real reason it even existed, if you want to make society better for our country then you need to get to the root of the problem. If kids dont have good role models they can relate to (you know family values type stuff the right is always screaming about...when it only meets their specific objective) what are the chances they will succede? If they dont have the oppurtunity what do you think will happen to the next generation?

I think these two Women are going to inspire more people to believe they can accomplish their goals and dreams than most any of you will do in your lifetime, so yeah it is a big deal, publicize it, let people know, let some little girl see that there are people that look like her in places of success and if she works hard she to can accomplish her goals. Statistically speaking the chances of that little girl having a male role model in her family for inspiration are low, for female role models that may be even lower, something has to be done or the problem will get worse.

OK maybe some of that was hateful-i'm sure it was meant as a joke, but yes it was in bad taste. I guess we will never reach an agreement on the matter at hand. If they make good role models then that's great-happy for it and glad to have a news story not about our failing economy and Obama for a change. But there is a double standard-sometimes it helps whites and other times it helps blacks.

"One of them were hired instead"? Are you saying that neither of these two women are capable and qualified to work at ASA? They were hired because of their gender or skin color, not because of their flying skills?

Ask the training dept about their skills. There were many issues with one of them. We had a female pilot a few years ago that required 125 hours of IOE. I remember 3 guys in my class (granted, long time ago)that were let go after sim 8. I have no issue with a female, or minority being an airline pilot. I have a huge issue that exists with the double standard that surrounds them. Affirmative action only serves to continue the divide and anamosity that it strives to eliminate. If you want racism and such to dissappear, then stop bringing it up.
