The hat doesn't fit with my spikey hair and my new Ipod glass cockpit...I made a choice...NO HAT! Thinking of this...I still can stuck it in my back pack!

Don't start with me you little "be0tch". I don't care how many stripes you wear on your shoulder, you will ALWAYS be my little B!tch.

Trojan

Sorry, I just felt left out of all the FB debates you take part in and I attended my first SEC game this past weekend so I had to get a word in while I could. The opportunity was just too good to pass up.

War Eagle! :D

Oh, I almost forget. Hats suck.

My head itches like hell after wearing any hat-- from the sweat. Not to mention I look retarded/10 years old wearing one.

Hats are for skycaps and bellboys. And as mentioned above, they do not serve a purpose whatsoever, unless you're bald.

The hats do work well on some guys, but I'm not one of them. Just doesn't go, and it looks sloppy. Just the way it is. I don't have a big head, and so it looks ridiculous.

And I have a conservative haircut, so I see no problem in not wearing a hat.

WOW!

the guys who refuse to follow the simple rules, and then complain about it really don't get it. If you don't like a rule, go back to Riddle and get your Aviation management training, come back here and be management. Then you don't have to wear your hat.

You ever break the ah, sterile cockpit rule there, champ?

Reverse....

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!

It is a company rule! Have I ever neglected a company rule...sure. But the difference is, I don't choose to intentionally ignore a rule.

A company rule huh. Do you always have the other pilot turn on the auto-pilot, how about transfering controls to brief a vis. approach when its clear and a million, those are the rules man, stick to them.

BTW, the hat serves no important functional purpose, unless it is pouring down rain. The brims are too short to keep the sun out of your eyes. They don't keep you cooler; they make you hotter, etc.

Actually there have been studies that show in times of emergency or stress people will look to and follow the lead of those wearing hats.

Someone may want to send this tidbit to the President of ASEY. It could be life-changing!

Yep. In the event of an emergency evac, I know the first thing I'm going to do is put on my hat!!!

The question is, will the cool chickie pilots be made to actually put up the Juanita Chiquita rats nest hair or what.

I saw one who looked like a ragged out stripper the other day.

WHERE WHERE WHERE?!?!

She had to be an ATR driver. Cool!

Silly as it sounds there actually have been some airlines that put that in the evacuation checklists. Not I saying I agree with it, just stating something is all.

Every airline has folks that don't like the hats and try not to wear them. But for my friends at ASA, consider this.

The pilots from ASA have had success getting hired in large numbers at DAL, FedEx, UPS, CAL, AirTran and other good operators because the perception amongst managers at these airlines that ASA pilots handle themselves well. ASA has an excellent training program and some of the ASA pilots have recieved publicity for their professionalism and doing a great job under adverse circumstances. The image of ASA pilots helps ASA pilots.

I understand not wanting to wear the hat when you are not included as part of the "team" and management craps on you. But, you simply need to rise to a higher professional standard than the rest of the operation.

This includes web boards. A debate on uniform attire, or even worse, IPOD usage while in 121 operations, should be kept in the crew room.

I think ASA pilots are pretty well respected and these sorts of debates have the potential to lower the esteem that ASA pilots are percieved to have earned.

It is a long winded elaboration of PCL's point, but in there is a little Disney in every passenger carrier operation. Being professional includes looking like the character the passengers expect to see.

Would anyone show up at a UPS interview and insult the brown? Would you tell Delta that double breasted is dorky and inconvenient to button? ASA is an airline job just like any of these.

Fins, not that you need my approval, but once again you have responded with a well written, cohesive, intelligent post. It baffles me that my current employer would not go out of their way to keep someone like you on the payroll.

You're arguing about a hat. Just sayin.

Yes, and what's sad is that some pilots find it so frickin' difficult to just put on a piece of the uniform that we have to sit around and argue about it. Just put the danged thing on and stop acting like a bunch of babies!

Those charged with enforcing/endorsing such new uniform policy should be held to the same standard during the conduct of ANY company duty. Specifically, CPO types should be in uniforn as well and no more dressing like everyday is 'casual Friday'.

My hat just added to the toxic cocktail I got to inhale. Until they give me a Nomex scull cap, I ain't wearing one.

Hey, I'm a skycap, you dumb arse pilots go around tryin' to look like somethin you ain't. Maybe when you grows up you can be one of us, but until then, get them profushnul lookin hats off yo nappy head. We started it furst. You copy dat?

Casual Friday?

How 'bout Flatulence Monday:

Eat eggs and sausage for breakfast. A side of pintos.

Rip 'em during the boarding process. Watch the look on their faces as they step aboard. "Whew! This airplane smells." Kinda sets the tone for the whole flight.

Works even better if you collaborate with your other crew for complementing air-biscuits, like garlic-broccoli or cabbage.

Priceless

You shouldn't get to pick what company polocies you choose to ignore because you don't agree with it or look good in it. I'm sorry, but you are wrong about that and there is no arguement you can make other than guys do it because they can get away with it.

Wow i hope I get to fly with you. And if your gonna hold me to such a high standard, then I will hold you and the company to an equally high standard. No plane will move without EVERY maintenance issue addressed. every placard, bonding strap, radome, striker plate, sun shade, light bulb will work perfectly or be deferred before we roll out of the blocks. Last day of the trip? Outstation? Tough crap. But I'll wear my hat if you enforce that policy on me...no problem. Like you said, you can't pick and choose what policies you follow. We have to follow em all.

Good times

Anyone that knows who I am, also understands that I cannot wear the hat for two reasons....
1) My polish head is too big

but most importantly....
2) I would ruin my beautiful hair!

Wearing a hat doesn't make one a better pilot. In fact, the best ones I know don't wear 'em. Some also roll up their sleeves. ******************** the hat law. I ain't wearin' it.

I can't believe how much some people whine about the hat, and for the record I think I look like a complete dork in it, (just look at my avatar) but I wear it anyway and I don't complain. I've never once heard a passenger say "wow look at the big dork with the hat" or "Gee I wonder if he's a bellhop?"

I'm not going to tell someone else what to do, but remember every little thing that takes away from this being a profession and not just a job is another excuse for them to pay us less money. Don't wax nostalgic about the good ol days when we were treated like professionals and long for how things "used to be" while walking through the terminal with your hat stuffed in your roller.

And the excuse that the hat is uncomfortable is the weakest of all the reasons for not wearing it, it sounds like "Mommy these uniform pants are itchy!!" :puke: Get over it! The anti-hat sentiment really seems like a typical Gen "Why?" thing. Why can't I wear a backpack? Why can't I use my ipod in the terminal? Why do I have to wear this dorky uniform? Cause god knows the worst thing that could happen is you might not look cool. :smash:
