I almost posted something similar to this as a joke, but didn't want to come across as insensitive.

As someone lucky enough (??) to be based in the ATL I sympathize with all the DFW folks.

Anybody got the number for that truck driving school?

In all seriousness, guys, when you DO come to Atlanta, be sure to find someone with an ATL badge on a 3 hour productivity break to give you the low down on the city (where to live, where not to live, etc) or the airport (avoid the Wendy's on C, etc) or whatever. It's a lousy situation, I know, but we'll all help however we can.

My source...I was talking to a F/A on the phone who was in ops at DFW. They have been giving these talks from senior management to everyone all day. A F/A was listening to all the changes and that's when they said 10 pilots quit today when they found out the news. This is what was relayed to me so I don't have any more info whether this is valid or not. I should know Friday when I start work out there.

I don't know about 10, but I was at the informational meeting today with Skip, Drew et al, and talked to 1 senior Capt who told me he was out, and 1 who was undecided, but leaning that way.

CP's were saying SLC would go relatively junior, but we'll have to wait and see. It is definately a CR7 only base, at least initially, so that may change the equation a little. 18 operational and 1 spare CR7 to be based there initially. So that's 90 Capt and 90 FO slots.

Skip and Drew both said all 25 deliveries are still on track for '05, and no pilot, FA or mechanic jobs will be lost, just moved.

Unfortunately, since CMR will be handling our new CVG flying, and SkyWest our SCL flying, the DFW ground people will be looking at a reduction in available positions.

Skip did say that SKYW has agreed to hire some of the DFW people in SLC, there just aren't enough new positions opening to replace the DFW jobs for those guys.

Better go grab some nameplates off the uniforms hanging in the crew lounge. And I guess it's time to track down my hat. I think it's crushed under the golf bag in my trunk. Glad I've got a few months to pull myself together!

I don't think people have a problem with being required to look half way decent at work. It just seems to me that he is, uh, let's say, in more dire need of a hobby than any white man on earth.

Give the CP a break.. He just wants to see the pilot group looking professional. Before he was CP the pilot group looked embarassing. Pilots with big western belt buckles, hats that were older than me, and ties with all the basic food groups.
I just finished the meeting with Skip and friends. Here are the highlights:

-90 captain and FO positions in SLC (19 CRJ7) 180 Flight attendant positions
-15 CRJ7 in CVG, crews will rotate through from ATL
-All remaining RJ will be based in ATL
-Drew said there will be a vacancy and displacement bid. He said there will not be a preliminary award, there will be a blind bid (I don't understand what he meant by that statement but nobody ever understands what he is trying to say).
-MTC workers will have the chance to go to SLC, ATL, MCN, BTR or any other position that might open up.
-The ground guys have the opportunity to work in SLC for Skywest and are able to carry their seniority to Skywest.
-NO paycuts or raises in insurance premiums

Skip said this all up in the air due to the uncertainties:
1-The Delta pilots giving up 1 billion in concessions.
2-Getting money back from the vendors.

GG is also concerned with the number of Delta retirements. He said there are around 650 pilots eligible for retirement. Who knows?

I heard the question asked on this thread earlier. Butrell, told us in a meeting today they will go to Skyway if DAL avoids CH. 11. Comair's bid could not compete with skyway due to some kind of lucrative engine deal skyway has with Pratt and Whitney. Also, he mentioned he did not want to 'burden' comair with the ramp up costs for an equipment type that were not in the long term plans for DCI. I believe 2-3 years was mentioned. If DAL files ch. 11, which could happen in as early as 30 days, FLYI will be stuck with the leases. Butrell also mentioned, DAL had the first rights to the US air CHQ planes in the event of liquidation over there. Among other things.
