Thanks! One of our CFI's from Wisconsin Aviation got on with ASA a few years ago.
 
No real good news

Salt Lake should go junior, early words(BS) from the CP it will be 70 seat base only. You would think commuting will be nuts, so it is anyones guess. With Mother D cutting back DFW is just another city, so AC size will be anyone's guess come January 05.

I want to throw up!

"Due to these changes, ASA will be asked to execute what is to be the largest operational shift in its history – moving 57 aircraft from DFW to new operational roles in Atlanta, Cincinnati and Salt Lake City. With the January changes, Atlanta will represent more than 76 percent of ASA system operations – up from 62 percent today. Salt Lake City, meanwhile, will become the home for 19 CRJ700 aircraft and more than 385 ASA pilots, flight attendants and mechanics. And Cincinnati will feature more than 60 ASA flights, with the operation being supported through Atlanta."

Side note- Total job loss as reported on news (probably wrong) is 2,100 DFW jobs affected today. DFW daily ops will go from 256 to 21...ATL SLC CVG service only.

It will be pretty much only offline commuting. SLC is only going to be a 70 seat base. Everyone else will go to ATL.
 
Reserve & Commuting to ATL

I have a class date in three weeks with ASA. I already live in the Dallas area so ASA's DFW base and the ever-shorter reserve times here were going to work out well for me. Now...ugh.

So a couple of questions if anyone can answer:

1) I've read in other threads that the time on reserve on the CRJ-200 in ATL is running anywhere from 18 to 30 months. With most of the DFW RJs and pilots moving to ATL, will reserve time there get longer or shorter? And by how much, do you think?

2) With a six days on/two days off schedule, is it even feasible to commute from DFW to ATL, especially once there are no more DAL/DCI flights between those cities?

Wow, bad news to/for all. Good luck in the transition. Curious...

1. Is the ASA contract up next? Seems like it could be a little whipsaw choosing you guys to go to SLC.

2. Were the loads from what you could see (as an average, I guess) low enough to kind of support this dehub plan?


I know Delta's hurting, and maybe they will become more efficient by closing DFW. Less employees, less empty airplanes (maybe). Makes you wonder if United should be doing this to Dulles right now. I'm sure the Indy guys would agree!
 
1. Reserve...who knows. Depends on too many things...especially whether we still get the 25 CRJs next year and where they end up.

2. Commuting DFW to ATL...I wouldn't do it. It's already hard enough now, just imagine with over 1000 displaced crew (Delta and ASA pilots and FAs) trying to commute to ATL initially...Yikes! Add that on top of significantly reduced flights and you've got problems.

Well good luck with your decision to make now...at least they didn't announce it just after you finished training.

Really, the answer to the first question is: God only knows. There's nothing in our recent history that compares to this, so you'll be experiencing something new. As far as the commute, good luck. With the schedule chopped, and hundreds of others giving it a shot, I wouldn't try it for anything. Hope it all works out for you.

You can always go to Eagle and be relatively guaranteed they won't pull out of DFW any time soon.
 
Just heard from a F/A in DFW that 10 pilots walked out and quit. Whoa! It's absolutely horrible.
 
It is crazy! Ten pilots quit, quick what are their hire dates!

It all makes my head spin. I am getting married in a few months. My luck I will be stuck with Bobby O in training and have to call in sick for my wedding.
