Classic example of drowning in the Kool Aid. What makes you so sure ASA is going to lose our flying, other than the veiled threat? Are you aware that the contract SkyWest has with Delta makes that VERY difficult? Are you aware that our APU usage is a drop in the bucket of our profitability at ASA?

The fuel you save is going DIRECTLY into the pocket of Delta managers in the form of bonuses. So go ahead and help them out by saving the fuel.

"Good goes around", right?

I am very aware of all the above and have been around here long enough not to drink Kool-aid or potable water or any of that other crap. I prefer coffee. Thanks.

However, I have been kicked in the sack by this place many times (base closings, downgrades, pass privelege cuts, etc...). Now with that being said, I will do what I can to make this place as profitable as possible so that the pay checks keep coming until I am blessed enough to move to greener pastures.

I've seen how ACA/Independence turned out. I've seen how the COEX guys have been done. Or how about the Midwest Connect guys. If you think for a moment that that could not happen here, or any other regional, you would be mistaken. Yeah, we have a contract with Delta but who knows what might happen in a merger, another bankruptcy filing, $150 a barrel oil, etc...

Don't let them scare you into lining their pockets. That's all I'm saying.

And if you think ANYTHING we have in our power to do will prevent ASA from becoming the next ACA or Skyway, you're giving us too much credit. If that's going to happen, it will happen regardless of what we do, especially saving a few gallons of APU fuel.

Sounds like Eagle management has infiltrated ASA. Gotta love Eagle's 3P's! Prepare, something, and plugin...or something like that. No one pays attention.

What a difference in culture. At the dark side of SkyWest, Inc. we never start the APU before landing unless we need it for icing conditions on approach, and I've never noticed an uncomfortable temperature during the couple minutes you're at full idle. If we know it's going to be a long taxi out or a lengthy delay we'll go single engine. We just started doing bleeds open takeoffs in the -200, and I haven't noticed a temperature drop because of it yet.

Not that anyone listens to us, but we should tout this fuel savings. Since we save DAL so much money... We should get more flying!

Does is get as hot in the mountains of the West as it does in the Southeast?

temperature drop??

That's a good one. We are talking about it getting too HOT and stuffy in the back. Get a clue.

The places I have flown to out west do not get hotter than the southeast. I usually fly around the midwest though, which is as hot as ATL during July/August.

ILS8L, I'd keep the APU going on the ground during the summer as well. I've never noticed it get too hot because we didn't start the APU before landing, but thanks for the kind words. ;)

JP.....Don't save gas for Delta.....Save it for Al Gore and Mother Earth......

Maybe you can get some carbon credits......:D

Besides I know you NEVER run the APU.......

Ya know, even if every red cent of the money you save by shutting the APU down whenever possible goes directly to the pockets of every overpaid manager at Delta...how about just shutting it down for the sake of a little less emission into the atmosphere? Or the sake of a little less wear and tear on the APU...making it just a bit less likely to be deferred when you need it?
WOW someone that actually makes some since out there...
