June 2007 hiring boom

Another sign of the coming hiring boom, airlines recalling, pilots not taking jobs becasue they are waiting for better ones, all the indications from the start of previous hiring boomss are starting to line up. Our pool 1/2 life fell by almost 30% in six months, pilots are finding more jobs.

Sounds like ASA is short of pilots. Do you think they will really lower the hiring minimuns. I'm fresh out of ERAU and am looking forward to a career with the airlines. My time isn't much more than 500 hours, but I have a degree from Riddle, an internship on my resume, and extensive MD-90 simulator experience (no type though).

1. Put your CFII/MEI to use and get up there closer to mins. I have heard of people being hired at ASA with less than published mins off the street, but we're talking about maybe 1000/200 rather than 1200/200.

2. Degree from Riddle. There's a lot of Riddleites at ASA. See if you can find some via your alumni network and maybe get to know one... maybe they'll help you out and write you a letter or something. Or, maybe not, I'm not from Riddle and I don't know how helpful you guys are.

2. Internship on the resume. Unless it's from ASA... don't expect it to get you anywhere at this company. Might as well put it on the resume but I don't think it will help you any.

3. MD-90 time. You didn't come out of that CAPT program, did you? Also, unless you have a type and/or time in type (which you don't), it probably won't help you. Just make sure you don't count it as total time, and if you do put it on your resume, make it clear that it was simulator training only. It probably won't help you much.

Basically, just don't expect a break because you're from Riddle. If you get one, great, but don't go in there thinking you deserve one.

My gawd, can't anybody see that RiddleMan80's post is complete (albeit quite nicely formed) flamebait??? From his profile it looks like he was enrolled in the CAPT program; CAPT is not a degree program from ERAU. Do they even get 500 hours and their CFI tickets in that program?

I'm sure you're just new to all of this...so here are a few words of wisdom if you want to survive 2 days as a career pilot. First of all, if you love flying, thats great. You did, however, spend I'm sure in excess of $100,000 to earn your prized ERAU degree, so don't you think you should come out of there with a job making at least a reasonable salary? Remember, there are those of us out there that also love flying, but we depend on it to pay our bills and support our families. So when an ERAU grad like yourself with 500 hours comes along and simply wants a flying job regardless of the pay, it doesn't rub off too well. If you really have a love for flying, change your attitude and help those of us that are trying to raise the bar to make this profession what it should be. IF you are indeed someone who created a profile simply to post flamebait, then it seems you have the perfect maturity level to have a long and prosperous career slinging bags....if not, best of luck, but change your attitude.

Hi guys,

I'm new to the board and have aquestion.
I've accepted the fact that the majors probably won't ever hire again and that's alright. I'm in this profession for the love of flying and not for the money.

What are they teaching at Riddle? Majors prob. never hire again? But that's okee- dokee with you. You're in the profession "for the love" and no dinero?
Just some advice matey, alot, almost all of this guy's bust their a$$"S out there and might not fancy some of your "not in it for the money" routine.
Not trying to be a hard a$$ pr1ck. You're a man so take this advice like one.
Maybe look into other fields of aviation, if money is not a concern to you!
