If you aren't happy here, then you need to find a place that makes you happy. Reserve and being junior sucks everywhere...Go to airlinepilotcentral.com and listen to the junior Delta pilots on reserve...They aren't happy either.

I don't take delight in anyone being in a bad situation, but growing our way out of this is your only real hope...or quiting...Your choice...

Must be a regional lifer. If not you sound like you should be in management.

Oh he's a regional lifer alright. And while we've seen our working conditions and QOL rapidly deteriorate, he doesn't feel his colleagues are justified in striving to improve those conditions because it used to be "far worse" back in his early days. To his colleagues attempting to deal with our increasingly oppressive reserve system he frequently offers this sage advice: "if you don't like it here, leave." In fact he graced us with this advice on at least two threads this very evening.

When the hiring finally starts and people DO start to leave, Joe will get his. ASA will be so short staffed that scheduling will bend Joe over so far, he's gonna feel like he's in prison.

One way or another. If I'm on reserve and get called in for a trip I will make min. day. Don't accept anything less. It is guaranteed by the contract and enforced by your right hand.

Same here.

The reserve group is own our own now. ALPA obviously does not give a S%*# about us, we know the company does not give a S%*# about us, and now apparently our more senior coworkers do not give a s%*# about us.

Let's make March an epic month for safety.

I hope the wheels come off the bus this summer. Apparently it's going to take a major performance hit for Charlie and Brad to recognize that the JP way of running crews does not work.

It's not that hard. Do your job. No more. No less. Follow the rules.

If it says cruise at 247 kias, cruise at 247 kias.

Maybe Joe would support a lawsuit against ALPA. they are not representing the reserve pilots at all.

We could call it the RJDC II. Reserves just don't care.

Good one! I like it!

In the mean time, keep on your reps and don't support a JCBA unless it includes Pay Protection for Reserves.

Very well put... He is just our own version of Gen Lee.. Every airline has one (whether they need one or not.)

-Everyone remember: Joe walked to work uphill both ways in the snow, with his shorts on fire! (And he made all such sacrifices for every one of us youngsters!)

-We should erect a statue.

SPINELESS! Is Joe's middle name. Sacrifices... That's him. He rides on all the gains made by people willing to take a stand to improve life at this airline. Yet he complains about how bad all these gains have been for everyone and how great his life is.
He is the classic mix of the "me" generation and baby boomer. He wants it all, but you shouldn't complain because he had it SO MUCH WORSE THAN YOU. BS.

Please tell us how bad you had it. Start by telling us:

A) How many years in the right seat?
B) *Of those years, how many in the right seat on RSV?
C) How many years in the left seat on RSV?
D) Of those years on reserve, did you always work every day you were on call?

That way we'll know exactly where you are coming from. Otherwise, it's hard to tell what you really do know about how bad it can be.

this should be interesting. I wouldn't expect an answer.

Yep-

He was busy walking both ways in the snow uphill.... With pants aflame...

-Too bad-

He will have to get back to you. (Whenever the RJDC gives permission.)

Reserve is unbearable right now.

I can't speak for Joe, but I can tell my story. I spent 4 months right seat Brasilia when I was hired and flew about 20 hours/month. I Upgraded after 5 years and spent 1 year on reserve. In the winter I worked about half of my available days, and in the summer I worked about 80% of my available days. This was all under the 1998 contract. I recently bid a month of reserve under the '07 contract and our current "staffing" model and I can tell you there is no comparison whatsoever.

I was worked every single day with about half of those days almost to max duty time with lots of long breaks between flights. It is easy to think of our individual time on reserve and try to compare that to what is going on now. I can tell you this, If I had to spend more than 4-6 months with our current reserve utilization, I would either have to willingly submit to the Stockholm Syndrome or start looking around for another place to call home.

I will end by saying this. I believe that ASA is the regional carrier to be at if you want/need to be at a regional. I also believe that we can always strive to make things better so I would like to see the JCBA include better rules for reserve as well as staffing requirements that allow the company to conduct it's business as well as maintaining a decent quality of life for all our hardworking pilots. I do think it will get better with the adoption of the new rest rules and the ATP requirement as well as upcoming hiring at the Majors.

Thanks for sharing AT. It's how you say people have a hard time relating to anything other than their own experience. I don't think Joe should say one word unless he does the same and walks a mile in the junior man's shoes. The only junior pilot that seems to like the abuse is 700forever and his management groupie motives are clear.
