Yeah, you're right. We should split hairs and argue over terminology instead of standing up to the attempt to erode our quality of life further.

But I suppose you think it's a good idea.

I don't really have an opinion either way. I think those on the 200 (majority) will want it because it will dilute the crap trips in the 200.

I am 100% for dual qual. As long as we get a blended rate that is higher than current 700/900 pay. No SKW block override silliness

Don't act like I'm the idiot when you don't know the difference between a common type rating (common category) and different type ratings (dual qualification).

We've been calling it the wrong thing at ASA. I guess we can't fault you for your ignorance...

Not really true there. FAR 61.57 states the requirements. Category is airplane, airship LTA or rotorcraft. Class is airplane single engine/multi engine, etc, common type is self explanitory. If it were a common category, it would be an airplane. It's a common type. The 717 and MD series are all common types to the DC-9. Dual qual is simplified meeting the insurance mins on the appropriate type airframe.

Why not have two rates and get paid for which one you fly? Why should the 700 guys get a pay cut?

You guys need to learn to wipe before you start talking about dual qual. They gutted us with PBS, they will do it with dual qual. What, I bet some of you ninnies will take dual qual for an ipad that cost $400 that will be pay deducted. Come on.

I think most of us would be OK with that however that would defeat the purpose for the company and therefore would likely not happen that way.

If the company offered dual qual at 700/900 rates +5%, I'll support it.

Of course it is a common type. What I mean is that if we join all of the "categories" that we have at ASA (CRJ 200 vs CRJ 700/900) then our flying will be "common category" flying. The distinction that we draw at ASA will go away.

Jesus. This isn't that hard folks. My only point is that it isn't a dual qualification to fly the 200 and the 700/900.

A dual qualification would consist of being rated on the CRJ and the ERJ at the same time. Now that we have two "types" of aircraft at Atlantic Southeast, calling 200 and 700/900 flying dual qual is stupid and misleading.
 
When has this company ever used scheduling flexibility to make our lives better?

So why would anyone here favor giving them more flexibility?

With dual qual 50-seat CRJ pilots will make more than 50-seat ERJ pilots. I'd say odds are about 2600-1700 that ain't happening.
 
If it's true that the MEC brought forward the idea for line bidding TDY. They need to be recalled! This is the last straw of many!

It really does suck that the bottom 30% may have to fly weekends. That never happened with line bidding! We should go back to that.

Read the PBS agreement. Unstacking is when the bottom 30% get assigned the weekend trips first. (or whenever the most trips are uncovered after the bid is run)

I was commenting on his last comment about enjoying unstacking next month.

I 100% agree with you, so long as it is for a rate that is better than the current. This way sick time and vacation time is also paid at said flat rate. I hear that SKYW gets 200 pay for both sick and vacation time.

Well that's all great and all! 7 year+ CA's with zeroed out schedule preferences! Don't fool your self, it will not stop at 30%. Oh and Res. % to increase as well. PBS rocks!!!

READ. You don't get "zeroed out schedule". They only take the date over the dates(s) they need to "unstack" then revert to your preference.


Unstacking
Unstacking is a tool used during the PBS bid run process to reduce large stacks of open time on a certain day or a group of days.
Unstack Rules and Limitations

  1. In a non-holiday month, unstacking will be limited to 30% of line holders in each position in inverse seniority order.
  2. In a holiday month, unstacking will be limited to 50% of line holders in each position in inverse seniority order.
  3. “Holiday” means the following days: Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
  4. If unstacking is utilized it will only be done to the lowest possible level in seniority to cover the open flying so as to affect the fewest number of pilots in each position.
  5. One unstack bid sheet is allowed. This is in addition to 3 regular bid sheets.
  6. The limit of 200 preferences includes the unstack bid sheet.
  7. Unstacking may span a day or several days.
  8. A pilot with vacation IS subject to unstacking
How It Works
Once it is determined that unstacking is necessary, the next step is to figure out how many trips need to be awarded during the unstacked period. Let’s say there are 20 pairings unassigned that all touch or start on Thanksgiving. Taking the number of reserves into account, it is determined that 10 of those 20 pairings need to get assigned during the bid run process. PrefBid will start with the most junior line holder and look for 10 pilots that are not already working on Thanksgiving, in inverse seniority order. Let’s say that PrefBid had to go 15 numbers up the seniority list to find 10 pilots not working on Thanksgiving. PrefBid will wipe all 15 affected schedules clean. It will then start building the most senior pilots’ schedule first. The first pairing that it awards is the pairing from the unstacked period, then the system will move back to bid sheet #1 (or whichever bid sheet you chose from the unstack bid sheet) and builds the rest of their schedule, according to the pilot’s preferences, around the unstacked pairing or pairings. PrefBid will continue building the rest of the schedules in seniority order.

Yep my schedule wiped out, and crap put back in it's place. Sure it will look at the pref., but I no longer hold what I could have held otherwise! This was not a problem with line bidding for me. I knew within +or- 2 line what I could hold.

Don't count on that. Only way 200 guys want it is for 700/900+ pay for everyone all the time. Why should the 7/9 guys take on the added liability for an additional set of limitations and systems without a pay raise? Same for 200 guys. Without a drastic change in management, we're never going to make it to the next contract anyway.

XJT guy here. I'm still willing to listen to the pros and cons of PBS in order to make an informed decision, but at this stage I doubt many of us xjt'ers are going to be voting for a contract containing PBS. I know to get a yes vote from me, we're going to have to see some really special improvements in pay and work rules for it to warrant consideration.
 
All this line bidding vs. PBS talk is hilarious. This company is going to bone us no matter what kind of bidding system we have if we continue voting in contracts with weak ass language.
