Wow! Delta really cleared out the senior pilots. Hardly any retirements in the next few years.

Yeah Bk/Lump sum did it.
I said "OUCH" aloud when I saw AA..I have some furloughed buddies that might not be getting back for a long while. CAL is going to be affected by 65 also.

BTW I just got out of PT and a lady sitting next to me is married to a Fed EX Capt. She basically said he and his buddy at DAL are planning on continuing past 60 "for something to do..and because they love it"

Okay, I coming out of retirement for this one:

It's not that they won't, it's that they're too inept to figure it out.

That one's for free. Enjoy. I'm headed back to the isolation booth.

Same here. First time I've ever seen them posted anywhere. Thanks for the info..and by the way, welcome back!

Thanks for the welcome back, but you see, I'm not back yet, still being held at a j4j prison. Still have 2 months to be parolled. Simply amazing that they have held everyone pretty much a full 9 months to supposedly train our replacements. 9 months to train 70 guys..... Don't get me started...HAHAHA

Sorry about that. Heard about you guys getting held back, but thought that those that were held back were released a few months ago. Not to worry though,we'll leave the light on for ya'! ( sure you wanna give up the "day job", though?? ;) ) Have a nice Christmas.

As I understand it *(and I might be wrong) we have a fair number of guys medical out before 60 so they can collect the insurance money until 65. Now that they can fly until 65, can we expect to see a decrease in pilots medicaling out? Anyone?

Naa, just the first group of paroles started a few months ago...they are slowly letting go. There's about 50 still at PSA and not sure how many still at REP. I think the last ones to come back will be in May, maybe April. Day job, is more of a nightmare, trust me.... Did night freight for 9 years, no problem going back to red eyes...

Your a better man than me. Did night freight for 2 years at ATI. Couldn't keep my eyes open much past midnight if I tried.

AA's numbers

Kind of eye-watering, isn't it?

Kind of sucks if you're looking for a job between now and, oh.... 5 years from now....

Slow Saturday morning before I take the boy to soccer...

Ruminating over a cup of coffee where the AAmerican AAirlines career went...

Interesting to see what's happened over the past 2.5 yrs - where a majority of the "early" retirements have come from since the law changed.

FWIW... These are forecast retirements over the next 20 yrs as of today.

Unless you guys keep growing it seems progression is going to be very slow. How long for a new hire to make it to 320 Capt?

My WAG is 8+yrs for A320 CA.

I live in base (BOS) so life at the bottom is tolerable. I wouldnt recommend JB to anyone who isnt comfortable with commuting to JFK or BOS for a long long time.

With zero and without negative growth, optimistically about 20 years.

If the company remains healthy there should be nominal growth to ease up on those numbers.

Where did you come up with those numbers? People are using these numbers as fact. Not cool if you are just making it up.

Not sure where they came from, so there could be mistakes. Take it with a grain of salt but I see no reason why someone would create fake retirement numbers

I don't think that it will be as bad as "just add 5." For example, guys will still be forced to retire for medical reasons, and the likelihood of someone having to retire medically in any given year will increase as one gets older. Further, I bet many guys will consider retiring when they hit the minimum social security retirement age of 62. That 2 year delay will help them with their monthly PBGC benefit as well if they have one coming to them. And of course, there will be some guys who just won't work that long, period.

I'm not trying to paint a rosy picture for hiring when this age 65 deal kicks in because the hiring situation will worsen I'm sure. And I also assume that any hope of a "pilot shortage" and wages coming up in response to that smaller supply will probably be dashed for a few years. But I bet age 65 slows hiring down for closer to 2-3 years vs. 5 years.

The way we were.

I remember asking 59 year olds if the law was changed if they would go to 65.

"No chance. I'm already sick of the job. Five more years sounds awful."

File that one next to "it's not about the money for me".

I don't know how anyone could last 30 years doing 5 legs per day, 25 min turns....??

Exactly! My favorite legacy quote "All I need is 2 years to get back what those rotten b@stards stole from me and then I'm outta here!"
