OK, the US Legacy carriers have addded nearly 7 Billion in market capitalization today. Even Southwest is up 8% and AirTran is up 16% as everyone buys in.

Of course, these mergers would probably hurt LCC's, but nothing is rational about today.

After telling the Delta pilots that the Board was pressuring Anderson yesturday, today Anderson is going to the Board to ask permission to begin possible merger talks. So I guess we assume that the Board will say "heck ya" and some consultant will get paid really big bucks to try to make 1+1 equal something around a buck and a quarter... with all the historical billions that have flowed down the commode in previous similar endeavors.

I just don't see it. There is nothing about DAL, NWA, UAUA, or LUV that is materially different than it was 24 hours ago.

This is a stock pump. If you or I did it we would be going to jail. If anyone has any compelling reason why DAL needs UAUA, or NWA, please let us know.

Further, if you were DAL's Board, would you rather buy an airline for yesturday's price, or today's?

When the market gets manipulated this blatantly, someone's getting screwed.

Is ALPA a willing co-conspirator (not that I mind)? How much stock do they still hold? I hope they have their sell orders in.

very true. this is not any different than when all the news agencies reported that a DAL/UAL merger was imminent a few weeks ago. Pardus was/is improving their position with this type of BS.

However, it would appear, good or bad, that DAL's MEC and the CEO are involved in this rumor...which may lend more credibility.

One thing here is certain: we're all nothing more (and possibly much less than) pawns.

how would LCC's be hurt by a reduction of domestic capacity? I understand the resulting increase in efficiency of a merged carrier but improving pricing power helps every carrier.

406, just for the record, you are even less than a pawn. I'd liken you to the peanut in my log this morning. Too bad I can't flush you.

well played, sir.

have you heard anything about whether TRICARE will approve your sex change operation? we're all pulling for you.

plus, there are a few squirrels in need of a penile transplant, and yours is just about right for them.

Old School: I don't disagree with you. Usually AAI moves opposite DAL on the big changes. I'm just amazed that (including LCC's) that 10 billion dollars have changed hands today based on rumors.

If bigger is better then why is AA shrinking to profitability. Bigger in no way means better or more efficient. Especially when every state senator is going to start screaming that they will not support the merger if it means a loss of jobs in their state. It will end up a bloated mess like.....AAA/AWA.

I think that DAL is throwing UAL in there for a few reasons. First if the hedge funds, but the second on that no one has mentioned is that to the DOJ, and investors NWA looks 10 times better than any UAL/DAL merger would. IE lesser of two evils here.

I believe that Delta is going to both United and NWA peddling the "synergies" of a non-union workforce and basically getting those airlines to fight over who can be the "chosen one" in this merger. I'm not saying this is like Delta is holier than thou, it's just makes us more attractive when you have NO unions on the property to wrestle with.

IMHO, I think that United may be pieced apart by that miserable, sick management team that has run out of ideas or excuses for the employees and now just want to don the chutes....... I hope I'm wrong......

I think I finally agree with you Lumburgh. Sad for those guys. I grew up wanting to be part of Big Blue. I'm not convinced they'll be around five years from now.

Bye Bye--General Lee

You might want to look into it too. These mergers can be tricky. But then again, you guys do pretty well only posting "operating losses." I guess that's like calling your pay cuts, "salary adjustments."

Who's pay scale are you going to go with? NWA's or DAL's? Who will offer to take pay cuts first to make this merger work?

Wait until the paycuts call comes down the trough...NWA has a pension and will give up anything (a pay percentage) to save it and the Delta crew doesn't have a pension and will fight ANY paycuts.....talk about a group divided!!!! Divide and conquer is what they salivate over......

BTW clown, you'll be happy to know (I know I am) ALL the Song planes are repainted and now all we have are the crappy drinks a 400 lb Senior Sow is pushing on the PA to the MCO-ATL crowd at 6 in the morning!!!!
