OK, the US Legacy carriers have addded nearly 7 Billion in market capitalization today. Even Southwest is up 8% and AirTran is up 16% as everyone buys in.
Of course, these mergers would probably hurt LCC's, but nothing is rational about today.
After telling the Delta pilots that the Board was pressuring Anderson yesturday, today Anderson is going to the Board to ask permission to begin possible merger talks. So I guess we assume that the Board will say "heck ya" and some consultant will get paid really big bucks to try to make 1+1 equal something around a buck and a quarter... with all the historical billions that have flowed down the commode in previous similar endeavors.
I just don't see it. There is nothing about DAL, NWA, UAUA, or LUV that is materially different than it was 24 hours ago.
This is a stock pump. If you or I did it we would be going to jail. If anyone has any compelling reason why DAL needs UAUA, or NWA, please let us know.
Further, if you were DAL's Board, would you rather buy an airline for yesturday's price, or today's?
When the market gets manipulated this blatantly, someone's getting screwed.
Is ALPA a willing co-conspirator (not that I mind)? How much stock do they still hold? I hope they have their sell orders in.
