Section 25 subsection B. I read that as if you are doing 17 in a row...no extension.

Section 25.L.2 covers extensions. Section 3.C.3 covers extra pay for an extension. I think Section 25.B is referring to not being SCHEDULED for a trip that exceeds 17 days.

Any body know about class schedules to come next year how many? How many guys in the pool? mid Oct interview just wondering how long the pool wait should be, I cant wait to get in class. Thanks for all you guys info that was posted it really helped.
 
I think getting all 17 days in a row out of the way would be better, that is if you can get straight home after for two weeks off.

767 classes will slow down a bit from what was planned. Only one bird flying and guys are stacked up waiting for OE. But, when the airplanes do start showing up (DHL starts early next year), they'll probably go full-bore again. Full capacity would be a new class every three weeks.

I think 747 classes will be steady all next year. Bunch of guys retiring in 2013, plus the deliveries they'll get next year.

If i had to guess, probably 50-ish in the pool. Next interviews in January.
 
I looked on the the Atlas home page and didn't see a requirement for PIC jet time. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? I have about 6k total, 3k SIC turbine but only about 800 of that is Turbine in a over 44k lbs a/c. The rest is biz jet turbine. What are guys getting hired with?

in my case, I had 1k bizjet turbine, 6500k CRJ time, with a whopping 420 turbine PIC. Put your stuff in!
 
When hiring started in 2010, the mins were 4000 TotalTime/1000 PIC Jet. After a few months the mins were reduced to 2500TT/1000 Turbine TotalTime (No jet, no PIC required). Just recently, the mins were reduced to 2000TT/500 Turbine TotalTime.

One of the new hires told me a guy in his class had, basically, no PIC (I think it was actually no Turbine PIC....most guys have at least some PIC SE flying light aircraft). He was a regional FO.

The 1st 2 767s are starting pax charter now...I think most of it is mil. Don't know the timeframe or how many other 767s are coming, except for the 5 cmi dhl birds mentioned above. Have heard rumours of over 20 767s total. Haven't heard anything about dhl 767s except rumours of base in US or base overseas....seems like the us base rumours are more prevalent lately.

The only 767 flying right now is a -300ER meant for AMC work. the 2nd -300ER should be flying soon. I believe the 3rd -300ER will show up sometime next year. As far as I know, any further -300ERs are theoretical at this point, but I've heard encouraging rumors!

We'll have 5 DHL freighters (767-200s) by the end of next year. DHL service begins next year. None of the DHL birds are ETOPS. Domestic service out of CVG, but I have no idea what routes.

I am one of those guys. I know of a few others hired with the same background. 6500 Total Time, 5000 Turbine, 1200 PIC, 0 Jet PIC (Thank you Comair).

Meet the Atlas mins and apply. The rest is personality, passing their tests, dedication to making a career at Atlas, etc.
 
They also "mine" the various pilot boards for info about you.

In case you're watching, Denise, I'm still very interested in Atlas! :D
I know I'd be very happy there.
 
I heard from a guy who is mgmt for an airline like ours that is freight and pax. At this point, the way the rules are, they would have to follow the pax rules for all their pilots for all of their operations.

I wouldn't be surprised if things changed a lot with the rules over the next two years.

That's kind of the same thing I have been hearing. It is all or nothing with the certificate. Then again, there is always the Polar certificate that could become very valuable to AAWW.

Yes, it is 100% true that a guy I know at another airline told me what he thought would happen there. That has nothing to do with what will happen at Atlas.

At Atlas, I have no idea. It seems quite complicated, as we have cargo, pax and mil pax...three different types of operations.

I am quite disappointed that the rules have been put off for two years. Congress gave the FAA until 1 Aug 2011 to implement the rules....that was the buffer time they had to get used to the new rules, as the law was passed in Aug, 2010.

Two MORE years is a long time, and I hope that the rules will not be negatively affected in that time. I hope that the rules will be improved by the time they are implemented.

What is competitive at Atlas as far as mins?

they cast a wide net. everything from lots of international ops to military to RJ drivers to bizjet guys. it really depends on you.
 
What is the word on the street with respect to how may new hires, how long from interview to class, how long is training etc. I live an hour from MIA. What are the chances of getting based out of there?

I was out flying with a sim guy doing his yearly observation and word in training was a slow down of new hire classes and more training of Classic crewmembers transfering to the 400, more new hires expected later on.

The number of new-hires is of course tied to growth and attrition. If every pilot on property at Atlas stays until age 65 then we lose 300 pilots in the next 8 years. As far as growth goes, it is all up in the air. Last year seemed to be a great year for companies like Kalitta and Atlas. Our product appeared to be high in demand. As long as the demand continues, so will the growth and hiring. The 767 program is just getting started and the rumors of it's size are very positive.

Interview to class time varies significantly. Some guys get it in two weeks and some wait over six months. The time it took me from my first Atlas application until I finished OE was 1 year (waiting for the call, interviewing, waiting for class, training, waiting for OE).

Classroom and sim training was just under 8 weeks for myself and will vary a little with each class.

I was able to hold MIA right out of training. So, currently, as a First Officer, MIA is not senior at all. On the Captain side, one Polar Captain downgraded when we merged the pilot groups in order to hold the MIA base.

Will/has the end of the Iraq troop movements negatively impacted Atlas for 2012? I know there was a backlog of IOE but does anyone know if the 767 program is slowing due to less business this year?

I haven't heard any big-picture updates, but the 767 program was put together rather quickly, and i think the "end" of operations in Iraq were well known during its development. For now, the DHL flying will be the larger share of the 767 fleet, at least for 2012, and that will build progressively throughout the year. At least the company's being conservative in the right direction - better to have too many pilots than a severe shortage...
 
Atlas was late at getting the paperwork into the DOD folks, so missed out on the 1st quarter award of AMC flying. I think they were counting on getting that flying up and running in the 1st Q, now have to wait for 2nd Q.
