Delta Air Lines Inc. has brought in the former CEO of Greyhound to oversee flight operations, customer service and other operational functions.
The Atlanta-based airline (NYSE: DAL) has hired Stephen Gorman as its new executive vice president of operations. He takes over Dec. 1, replacing Joseph C. Kolshak, who will retire after 20 years of service.
Gorman recently led a four-year financial turnaround as CEO of Dallas-based Greyhound Lines Inc. Prior, he was president of the North America division for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. (NYSE: KKD) and executive vice president of flight operations and technical operations at Northwest Airlines (NYSE: NWA).

OK Gen Lee,

Are we gettin' any closer now ?

DL/NWA Merger

I don't know but its starting to look more and more like they are aligning people and getting things ready. My prediction is they will do back door discussions and right before there is an administration change will see something happen if the conditions are right. I just got hired back at DL so I hope it happens later not sooner.

It really is going to be an interesting 08....My prediction....TURBULENCE...Followed buy a long smooth flight! NW/DL just makes sense....UA/DL does not...Not to mention the difficulties the DOJ would have with the DL/UA merger.

I am still jealous! Congrats buddy!

Sounds like Anderson is finding people he used to work with and who he is familiar with to come to work for him. The new guy didn't come directly from Northwest, but a 4 year stint at Greyhound and Krispy Kreme Donuts. They are probably friends and he probably wanted back into the airline business.

What about Kolshak leaving?

What about Kolshak leaving? Yes he may have 20, but isn't he something like 50 years old? Where's he going, following his predecessor to Jet Blue ir Virgin US?

insidious takeover of delta by nw. kind of like the illegals taking over the U.S one person at a time.

My change for a nickel....

1) Wednesday, Pres and interim CFO Bastian says...."ahh nevermind, we don't need to look any more for a CFO, I'll just keep the title....." (MEANING: When we merge, NWA already has a CFO and buying out a new guy's contract gets expensive)

2) Thursday, Exec VP of HR triggers $489,000 of stock.

3) Friday , Exec VP of Operations Kolshak replaced by one of Anderson's ex-NWA cronies.......

Vegas just placed the odds on a DAL-NWA merger at 7-4........

I'm predicting a code-share with Greyhound.

Ain't gonna happen........the Greyhound drivers would take a paycut to get to our wages.....

I still don't see it happening unless someone else pulls the trigger first. Yes, Anderson is calling a lot of his old buddies from his NWA days, but a lot of them haven't been at NWA in a while, like this latest guy--who has had 2 other jobs in the meantime. He worked at Krispy Kreme for a year, and then Greyhound for 4 years, turning it around too. It is not like he is at NWA now, and then going to Delta. If Anderson knew him at NWA and trusted him, then maybe he could do a good job for Anderson now at DL.

If someone else starts the dominos falling, then yes, I bet DL will approach NWA for an acquistion. I don't really see them doing it first, and Parker and Tilton seem to want to do it first, maybe together.

As long as it goes doh or we get fences for all of the 744s, 330s, 787s + options, 320s I will be happy.

Sounds good to me, and we make sure you stay up there in MSP and DTW, and we get fences on all of the 777s (we will have 25 777LRs within the next 3-5 years), all of the 767-300s (which pay more than your A330s), the 767-400s (all 21 of them which pay a lot more than your A330s), all of our 757s (we have more than twice the number that you do), and all of the NWA DC9 guys have to be furloughed before any of our guys when we dump them, since they will be fenced on it. Sounds great. Fences can be good and bad, and your DC9s will certainly be fenced. But hey, I guess we will own Compass, so those DC-9 guys have seats waiting for them.

Isn't all of this trash talking a little premature? There will be decades for you guys to squabble like children if a deal like this goes through...save your breath.

Absolutely. I was just responding to what the NWA guy stated. I am sure there could be fences built for plenty of planes, but the fact is while we may not have 744s or some 787s on order, we have plenty more widebodies, better bases, and have more planes and pilots, period. If it ever happens, I am sure ALPA would figure something out.

I hate it whenever general lee makes assertions about things like this.... he's almost always wrong.
