American moves up delivery of more planes

Why doesn't American and other MD80 operators re-engine their planes with fuel efficient engines? It would be an bigger version of the 717.
 
Thats smart. the economy is slowing but they keep buying airplanes and incurring more debt.
seriously though, I guess its good since they will be able to retire the mad dog.

Smarter than you think. The MD-80 is too expensive to operate. It's about time.
 
Those MD80s are almost as junky as the USAirways 737-300/400s (East) airplanes out there. Time to dump those airframes (and allow Allegiant to buy them).
 
The interiors on AA's 80's are quite nice. No planes are as junky as U's East 37's. Take it from a DFW-CLT commuter.
 
They could just buy AirTran and get a bunch of 737's and 717's. Keep the airplanes, $h!tcan the employees.

I'll bet they even have some "Two Great Airlines, One Great Future" hats and t-shirts left.
