Do a lot of overwater or long range flying and you'll get the mental division figured out in a hurry.

x pounds (gallons) of fuel on board, x pounds (gallons) fuel burn per hour, x knots, x miles to the destination (landfall, nearest bailout).

Will I make it? Can I get to an alternate? Where the hell is that calculator?
