I have been told from corporate friends at 2 airlines now that Alaska will be absorbed by some airline and "significant preparation and research is being done at every airline" on this topic-

I can't source it and we all know what the airlines are at this point in our careers- possibilities are everywhere and stability is a myth that's temporary at best.

So IF you were to be bought Alaska pilots, who would you prefer do it and why?

If I was an Alaska pilot I would want Porter Air to buy use. Hot young FAs, what more could you ask for . :)

Hopefully someone that will let the pilots fight their own SLI battle without management taken sides.

China Eastern, Southern or any state sponsored Chinese Airline for that matter. Lessening of Foreign ownership rules is inevitable. Better to be at the tip of the spear. At least I might have a shot at an upgrade before I'm dead. Do they even have a retirement age in China?
How do you say VSA in Mandarin?

Even when the CEO controls the money side of the equation? Good luck with that, especially when there's a large difference in contracts.

So back to the original question. Who's in play.

Delta? I don't think they would get past the DOJ on the size.
AA/US? The same, especially since they aren't close to completing theirs.
UA/CAL? A mix of both of the above.
HAL? Not sure that works too well together with two very specific regions.

Pretty much leaves Southwest.

What are the other ideas out there?

AS+DL would be too big to pass DOT approval? How so? In terms of ASMs AA+US would be bigger than DL+AS. I cant see any slot controlled airports that would be significantly changed by combining AS/DL.

Just pure assumption on my part. I believe adding Alaska after merging with NW recently would be an interesting arguement before the DOJ. That's why I asked what others thought. You could very well be right. DOJ vs. DOT though...two different arguements as well.
