when you go the alaska website and search for pilot jobs, it says the pilot job was posted on 5-18-2006. So maybe everything just changed. What I quoted earlier was posted on first class under the LAX file.

OK I found it when I went through and did a job search, the questions are easy and it will attach your profile/resume to the new listing.

Thanks

I think it is an attempt to allow commuter pilots to interview without a type rating or ever having upgraded. I have heard of a few hire-ups trying to get interviews for pilots (SB's) that are a long way from getting any PIC at their present company.

Thoughts on the process?

I originally applied the first time approximately 5 years ago, and periodically update my stuff online every few months. I had an Alaska S.B. letter written for me five years ago, and another by a different employee about six months ago. The first time I was pretty low time overall, now I am starting to be more competitive from a qualifications standpoint.

I also in the past had applied for a SEA simulator instructor position at Alaska. When the position was filled for the Sim. Instructor job they sent me an email saying that the position had been filled and telling me to keep looking back in the future.

Does anyone know if the handling of S.B. or just general online pilot applications is handled the same way as the sim. instructor job? Will you ever receive a "thanks but no thanks e-mail/postcard" or just not hear anything period? It would be nice to know something of what was going on with the process.

Alaska is my first choice and I would like to get back to where I consider "home". But I am also not getting any younger and will go somewhere else to make my (hopefully) final career move if a decent opportunity becomes available.

Any thoughts or ideas on the selection process are much appreciated.

THANKS!

Go anyway. These are excellent avenues to meet the recruiters face to face and actually spend some time with them.

The Women In Aviation job fair is what got me noticed and I know at least one other guy who went that it worked for as well.

Well you guys are not the first to mention that so I'll have to give it a go. Unfortunately It'll be some time before I meet the pic req. But I know in the end it will be worth the wait. Hey flex, Hows the Carvin treating ya?

The Carvins are treating me very well indeed....all of them. All the guitars, the bass and the two amps.

But I DID add one non-Carvin to the arsenal. A '63 Reissue ES 335 that I proceded to replace the pickups with WCR Goodwoods, the electronics with an RS Guitarworks premium kit, and the bridge/tailpiece with a TonePros bridge and Featherweight aluminum tailpiece. It is a true tone monster.:smash:

What if your not black or a woman?

No need to be a minority or female, as long as you support the organization...not just "use" it.

Don't expect a call for interview after just one jobfair...I've been speaking to Alaska recruiters at 6 job fairs over the last 4 years.

I also have talked to their recruiters several times over the last five years, but my impression is that they were not "actively" recruiting pilots to the level that they appear to be gearing up for now. I also don't think that they were that interested a few years ago when I had 3000 TT and not much 121 experience.

Good idea on attending these jobfairs- in the past I would have not tried to attend since I am neither black or female.

I have heard numerous people mentioning the 126 pilots in LUV's pool. Some have said that the chief pilot has confirmed it. I also heard that the union and the company have discussed pilots ready for early retirement next year. The number is somewhere around 350 pilots that will go if the laws in D.C. go as planned next year. Rumor has it that a practice bid will be coming out in the next few weeks with 80 capts on it. Mgmt. is expecting a lot more training events then usual. All -200 pilots bidding off in ANC. Senior MD capts. vacating their posts with junior 73 f.o.'s filling the seats. Looks like someone has a lot of training to do in the future.

I buy everything you said except about the 126 pilots in SWA's pool. More than one SWA pilot in the know has said there are not 126 pilots total in the pool...much less 126 AS pilots.

Our next bid is coming out in June. I haven't heard anything about a "practice" bid, it's the real thing...and yes, we expect a lot of training and are geared up for it.
