Our lot hires 200 hour kids straight to the right hand seat of B757s. Mate of mine is a TRE/TRI, and he's getting a bit tired of holding their hands. Sure, they can fly the magenta line and program a FMC like champs, but switch the FD off and ask them to fly a visual and they often overload.

Well at least those FO's are getting paid a salary with us. With airlines such as Ryanair and other LCCs, those same 200 hour kids will by paying first for the type rating, then for the "privilege" of sitting in the RHS. It's called pay-to-fly, and I for one am not setting foot on any European LCC carrier for that very same reason.

I remember a SWA 737 at Burbank about a decade ago that overshot and stopped just a couple feet away from a gas station. Was that a 800 hr pilot too?
