Labbats is absolutly right. It is totally hypocritical. If this idiot from offspring actually believes in anarchy what in the hell is he doing with the ultimate symbol of capitalism. It is like equating good and evil (anarchy).
Sorry I am not trying to hijack this into a political thread, but that whole anarchy citation (if its true) is absolutly absurd.

Publicity. Everytime he shows up with his jet people ask who owns it. People say the lead singer of Offspring and then the groups name gets out there more. Pure publicity. It's the same as Pizza Hut painting their trademark on their plane.

Now I have not seen a recent Offspring CD, its been a good 4 or 5 years. Before that I was a big fan (still am, Im just stuck in pre 1997). In that time I dont remember ever seeing anything political, let alone an anarchy symbol. It has nothing to do with the band. Now if it was Rage Agains the Machines' jet (that's laughable), I could see the corolation.
Now I will admit, I am not one that truely listens to the lyrics. When ever I do that I usually hear something I disagree with, then endup disliking the band.
I do agree with mainah however, its a conversation starter.

The Offspring's last album was Conspiracy Of One. Came out in 2000. Its very Americana like. If you don't already have it I highly reccomend it.

And then there's the "Smash" album from '94; track 3 again, "Bad Habit". Turn it up. Louder. I kinda feel the same way riding the freeways in Houston on my motorcycle... and strippers play it from time to time at the clubs, so it's got that going for it, which is nice.

Actually, it is not necessarily hypocritical to be an anarchist and own a private jet. Anarchist philosophy covers many levels and is often wrongly pigeon holed into one entity. If you read 19th or early 20th century anarchists like Mikhail Bakunin or Emma Goldman and apply some of their philosphies with present day realities, one could see that anarchism can work within the capitalist system to develop a coexistence.
Anarchism vs socialism vs communism vs capitalism (none of which in a pure form will work) are not black and white issues. There are plenty of shades of gray.

Unequivocally likening capitalism with "good" and "anarchy" as "evil" is absurd.

My dad was a Navy fighter pilot and he said that while they were filming Top Gun Tom Cruise was taken for a ride in the F-14 and after only a few minutes he was sick and supposedly did not like it. I guess he didn’t really have the need for speed at the time nor the stomach. He was on Leno about 7-8 months ago and was talking about buzzing Spielberg’s house in his P-51 after the release of Minority Report. I was surprised to hear that he was a pilot now.

I remember when they were filming Top Gun, I was about 11 and we got to go see the sets and the black F-5's they were using. My brother and I used to play shuffleboard in the O-Club lounge (were the famous serenade took place) during Sunday brunch. Remember it like it was yesterday.

Ahh, those were the good days.

Steve Mcqueen was a pilot. he flew out of santa paula,ca.

up until his death in 1980 he kept his classic cars and motorcycles in his hanger there. he was known to "hold court" in a chair outside his hanger and take old folks and children for a tour of his hanger. he is still listed in the FAA database.

Ed Mcmahon (here's Johnny) was a marine corp fighter pilot in the korean war. he always told johnny that he was afraid of heights. that stumped johnny.

by the way johnny carson was a licensed pilot as well.

Most of ya'll probably don't recall Roy Clark (Hee Haw) flew his own MU-2.

I believe Larry Mahan (six time world champ rodeo cowboy) flew his own C-310.

Tom Landry flew, as did Walt Garrison. Cessna used to do print ads with Walt's picture.

Yes, indeed Tom Landry was a pilot, and not only as a civilian, but flew B-17s in the ETO during WWII. Another former NFL head coach that was an active pilot was Chuck Noll of the Pittsburgh "Steel Curtain" days. Chuck owned and flew a Beech Duke.
If I were to pick THE one celebrity, athlete or actor that flew it would be without question Ted Williams. Not only did he volunteer during his heyday of the 1940's to fly as a Marine Corps pilot, but also flew in Korea in the Grumman Panther. In fact, he was in the same squadron as John H. Glenn (astronaut/Ohio Senator). Ted was an inspiration more for his unselfish patriotism than his incredible abilty, talent and love of baseball. I regret that I never saw him play.
