What the heck was the AAI guy on bus venting about? Is this something new? Don't give up the SWAPA Forum for New Years resolution, there are a few forum regulars in the next few classes that will bring some lively discussion according to him.

Another observation is how come the same CAs that seem to think they are superior for never going to the SWAPA forum are the same guys that have no clue about recent bulletins? What 5 min warm up, why 121.5 at 10,000, FO's can't do 1,800 RVR approaches.

Some things never change I guess.

It's never to early to drink. Enjoy your day. :)

Its in AOM now. Climb check put on 121.5. Doesn't say when to switch back though.

No worries it must be my time of the month after being subjected to Capt turn the packs off as soon as we get to the gate. That is why I mentioned the forum because its a multiple thread topic about Capt killing the airflow at block in. I would have to do 3 PAs on a 40 min flight because he did care about customer service but then roast them at the gate. Makes no sense.

Flaps 1, no lets hold off. 5 seconds later alright lets throw the gear down. Holy cow man just fly every freaking leg so I can relax. I admit I aint the ACE of the base but let me fly unless I am doing something non-standard etc..

That felt good thanks for listening. Back to lurking

Are you flying out of PHX? Come to MDW. :)

Wow. After ten years and 6,000 hours of 737 bliss, I'm not sure how I'd handle a numbskull like that, that would be tough. Be curious to hear how others are handling this.

This too will pass.

These ass clowns make you real good at energy awareness so you can call them on their own game. "You sure look high here" :)

OK, just looked, it is a new change, nice of them to tell us this tidbit in the change section, and it says "121.5 or as required". To me means, next base freq or ATIS. We start doing overwater, I'll start listening watch on Guard. ACARS can find me quicker than a call on guard if I'm on the wrong freq.

It's all good. Having a good time just annoyed a tad when he said "I never go to the forum" insinuating he is superior for not giving a damn about what others discuss when I mentioned the whole packs off thing at gate.

Ty its great, (at least from FO to FO status) I have never made as much in month thanks to their swaptimizer program that makes bidding during VAC month easy. There are so many options once you grasp you have to commute if you want extra money at times.

the phx f/o, twice the work with half the pay AND free flying lessons!!!

had a guy tell me to put my charts away. told him i like to the 10-9 out...just because ya' never know. we were flying into our base. he continued to ''allow'' me to go ahead and put my charts away.

we've all got 'em. all airlines, all bases.

I flew turboprops and just press the field, most of the micromanager crowd simply suck balls at flying - so I pretend not to hear and do what I want.

I'm trying not to hear the thousands of ops calls in our not hubs. Parking on guard at least might help me from being nordo. It would be the perfect system if only the "guard"ians would quit their chatter.

I still like that story of our guys calling in for the kayaker over his head

My fav is when the cappy would switch to guard after I set the next company freq without telling me. I bet the Navy boys loved hearing me call on the ground about three times before I figured it out. And no the genius in the left seat said nary a word!!!

There's always the idiots out there who have to make a relatively simple and enjoyable job complicated and miserable...

Love the stories of, well thats in the book. But they have no clue what the book says. If you say its in the book=PLEASE know what the book says!!!

No ********************:) My point is, why listen to it, RU trying to be the hero finding that lost C150 on a dark stormy night? Or are you tying to talk to the Navy?:)

Well, when I was flying a few miles from the DMZ, it was mandatory. Now it's SOP for ETOPS and domestic. And it's probably just a good idea since you can hear any ATC facility that needs your attention.

Might save someone's day. Maybe a nice approach controller say, "On guard - XYZ123, altitude alert. You look like you're lined up for Branson."

And I'm not a Guardian. I think that's AA's job. ;)

If your going to post stupid at least get it right. Why would they have warned they were lined up with Branson? Also, they had radio contact with the tower controller the entire time, even after they landed.

I don't know much about SWA at Branson and wasn't trying slight anyone. I have flown to a lot of uncontrolled fields under radar but with COM1 on CTAF and COM2 on company.

It's not stupid to think radar can help you more on approach than listening to BillyBob taking ON and IN times.

Well, maybe they were supposed to be landing at STL.

But in your direct example, they had tower and an ATC, nobody said nothing. Guard would not have helped.

True. I was just trying to remind people of the general idea of landing at the wrong airport. There's better examples, I'm sure.

There are a bunch of GA airplanes that still only have 121.5 ELT's, mine included. Since no one else monitors guard but us airline guys, the MIL guys and FAA ground stations, I'll keep it up during non-sterile periods. I'd hate for a real GA accident not to be found, because I didn't have guard up when I flew right over it.

If I ever need to rely on my ELT for help, the beers are on me if you hear it, and bring the calvary.
