Everyone needs to calm down. They sky isn't falling.

Our MEC has dramatically increased in size due to the opening of two additional domiciles - MCO and MKE. Now those two have LEC reps along with the LEC reps from ATL.

They all got together and decided a few changes were in order. This stuff happens from time to time. Some might say it is normal housecleaning. I recall that the SWAPA Vice President resigned not too long ago, for whatever reason; so you see...it happens there too.

The LEC reps wanted the MEC Vice Chairman out, so they removed him. A couple of weeks later, after ALL pilots from ALL domiciles were given the chance to be considered for the vacant position; the LEC reps made their choice from the candidates.

The LEC reps also wanted the NC Chairman removed from his position. So they did that too. The former NC Vice Chairman is now the new NC Chairman. No loss of continuity.

The sun still came up the next day and we're all still here and intact.

IMHO, this is the LEC's flexing their muscle and showing who is really in charge. Some may not support their decisions, but others will. It is a democracy and the majority rules.

Varying answers, depending who you talk to. The MEC didn't put out an email explaining their reasons, so most of the line swine don't know and, given the apathy here, don't care to know.

One of the answers I got was that he wasn't doing any of the contract enforcement work which was his primary duty now that he wasn't negotiating it anymore. He and the now-Chairman of that committee are the most knowledgeable about the current contract and what was intended in each section, therefore they needed to be working the enforcement issues (and there are many) and a few are saying he wasn't.

Not yet. The Negotiating Committee won't be involved until AFTER arbitration, if it comes to that, to negotiate the implementation issues that transition our CBA into yours. Not that we will influence YOUR CBA in any way, but ours will have to slowly be changed to mirror yours during integration so that there's not a big pay disparity in our own ranks as our pilots go over, our schedules can be tweaked to mirror and work into yours for connecting passengers, lots and lots of things will need to change with our CBA and who better to negotiate that than the people who negotiated our CBA and know it best?

The Vice-Chair is now the chair, so there's still continuity of knowledge. Nothing to flip out about, but I imagine LH was put on notice to get current and simply run the union on a daily basis, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him resign after he gets current.

It all stems from the “12 angry men” who are PO ed that they did not get their stared ALPA pin. The ATL LEC chairmen and secretary are the ring leaders. Well really the chairmen the secretary is just his lap dog. They were able to get their lackeys into the MCO and MKE LECs because anyone worth having does not want to be associated with the union because of all the childish crap going on. I hope that will change when SWAPA takes over and some descent people run for office.

That's exactly what it is. Happens at every MEC. However, it isn't a democracy. Its a representative democracy. The difference is that x number of like thinking LEC reps rule. The majority has no say in the matter once the LEC officers are in office.
