Youse guys want rumors, here you go. Especially directed at WyoHerkDriver, with whom I've shared many PMs regarding rumors!

They just recalled 30 check airmen (fact.) Very interesting, since the 10 recalls per month were because that's all they could do with the current number of check airmen. Now that they've recalled 30 more, methinks it's because they're gearing up for a lot more than 10/month later in the year. Look for at least 200 recalls next year. Bypass rate will drop dramatically now that we are into the "involuntary" furloughs -especially with the Eagle flow backs, who pretty much have to come back or quit Eagle.

First recall class is Jan 3, next one is Jan 30. Assignments will be MIA/FO/737/D and LGA/FO/S80/D. Eventually, when our 9 displaced STL pilots get reinstated, STL will also go to recalled pilots. I think BOS/FO/S80/D and ORD/FO/S80/D will also be possible, eventually (still pretty junior.)

You are highly encouraged to bid LGA/S80. Don't ask why. :pimp:

Let's get a kick a-$-$ contract now!

This is good news if true, but I know a senior Check Airman who stays in touch with me over the recalls (as I also anxiously await) and he didn't hear of this (yet).

Where did it come out? Company website? APA?

So is it like Delta/UPS, etc that when you're in an I sub-base, you only fly International, or can you fly both?

ER,

Kinda like the Hertz commercial "well not exactly". We have Internationl class we attend (over a few days), and then a checkout division specific ie, Atlantic, Pacific, S America etc. You need to be qualified in that specific division to pick up a sepcific trip. For a time I was holding a line on the 767 in BOS to SJU (carribean div. at the time), I had not been checked out to CDG (Atlantic div), I was unable to pick up that trip even as a line holder, I needed an atlantic check out.

Normally one can not pick up out of /D /I divisions, however we have a number of FB (Relief lines) for certain bases and aircraft. These lines consist of a domestic trip for landing currency with their FB trips. One could trade around the FB trips with open time containing other domestic trips originally built into the FB lines and end up with a month of domestic trips.

If you are current (Int'l qual lasts for 1 year) you could be JM, or reassigned if needed on an Int'l trip if you are domestic.

So to make a long story short, normally no. However as mentioned above there are certain instances where one can. Not the easiest system, but it is what we have.

regards,

AA

This has been mentioned on our union website, and by managment pilots. Like I told AA73, they are not just recalling checkairman, they are hiring new ones. I flew with two gentlemen recently, one was hired, and the other was waiting for his call (he interviewed). They are gearing up the school house with more sim ps and instructors. This came from a couple in the school house, and on was called and (furloughed instructor) and asked if he would be available in short order.

AA said they were recalling to cover attrition, we are retiring A LOT more than 10 a month. IMO opinion they are just getting spooled up, and you will see the numbers pick up.

AA

I am cautiuously optimistic, and would welcome an opportunity to come back to the AA property; however, with the possible change toward the mandatory retirement age; the entire landscaping could change.... and AA will go from retiring 30 pilots per month to 0.

Hope I'm wrong...

I wouldn't worry, even if the retirement age changes, there will still be recalls. We are done parking a/c but there will still be plenty of early outs.

Just flew with a CA today who is applying to be a check airman. He said (4th confirmation now!) that they're actually hiring 40, not 30, new check airmen. This tells me they are definitely going to ramp up the recalls soon.

Stay tuned!

Just when I think I'm out,.............

But, once I knew I was getting laid off, I came to the realization that flying is what I do. It's what I am. I can't separate "me" from "pilot". There is no "getting out of the business". But that's just me. This is all I've ever wanted to do--literally since I knew what an airplane was.

.....they pull me right back in!!!

Hey 73, Just got off the phone with a friend that talked to a AA chief that said recalls were expected to ramp dramatically. Looks like r65 is dead, a new fed-ex style contract on the way, and recalled into the 767. Dont let my wife see this, she may give me a hair cut and send me back to work.

And then you woke up!

Seriously, the recall ramp up is on the way. As for the Fedex contract, bring it on baby! We should be shooting for at least that. Right now the union rumors are about a 10-15% increase in pay in exchange for lines built up to 83 hrs, with pick up to FARs. Reserve system gets fixed too. We'll see...

cheers, 73

Sweet deal if it is true and I bet it is. I would love to be at American.

wonder how many people who decided (circa 2005 to present) that (INSERT BELOW) was the place to be/job to have

Corporate
FAA Inspector
Customs Pilot

will then decide in 2007 that (INSERT BELOW)

XXXX Major Airline is the place to be.

Gotta love pilots, they can memorize checklists, but do they ever learn?

Good point. Really good point.

XXXX Major Airline is the place to be.

When times are-a-good, a major airline pilot's seat is indeed the place to be.

In bad times a Goverment Pilot's position is pretty sweet.
7 or 8 years ago, a job with Delta, American or United could not be beat as far as pay, retirement or days off.

20 years ago Flying Tigers was the top dog.

Before that Pan-Am and Eastern would be the top choice.

Uh, what is the point?
Customs Pilot?
Flying a B-350 for $80K a year with a pension after X number of drug busts?
Or flying an FAA desk to age 67 to secure a decent retirement?
Plenty of Eastern scabs are doing it, popping their heads in my cockpit to check on current revisions and licenses.
Bet they would rather fly a major line @ the A scales than pushing papers and playing sky-sheriffs on their old days.

Aye, none of us have a proper crystal ball:
Remember the rah-rah about Peoples Express?
The life-time jobs with Pan-Am?
The UAL stock options?

As far as corporate pilots:
That may be the future, secure a job in the left seat of a G-5 for a rich guy, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
Based in yer town, Fortune 500 future, no furloughs in IBM or Bill Gates land.

How do I apply or qualify...........?

Flying for Ford in the BBJ was great until they sold it to SWA.

But flying for Exxon or some other bulletproof company would be great....

No corporate job is bullet-proof. All it takes is having the wrong bottled water on board or the linens not showing up--it's suddenly YOUR fault and a black mark goes next to your name.

Or, the biggest turd in the department (can't fly, backstabs constantly) shows up one day with his name-plate on the Chief Pilot's door and you're days are numbered.

Merger.

The only security in corporate is the ability to move laterally to another company (but there goes the benefit of flying out of your home town).

There is no security in aviation. You quit your job to take the recall at the airline and your company gets bought or buys someone else and you get a phone call from HQ telling you that recall classes have been suspended. They'll get back to you...
