Was listening to a q&a session that was online for employees and the question of could SWA ever bring on the 737-800. Gary's answer was that if we could fill the seats in a given market then it would work. The additional FA would be a scheduling issue that would have to be worked out. He even went on the say if we did come across some they could be parked and maintained until such time....but was quick after saying that to say that there is nothing on the horizon or something to that affect alomst like he was trying to shut himself up about something. Any here from SWA watch the video in swalife?..it was at the DEN meeting which is online.....makes me wonder...doesn't Sun Country have -800s would it not make sense to put a plane like that in a market like LGA where we are slot limited but want the seats filled.....am I reading into this too much?

They came across plenty of 'em in ATA when they got the LGA slots in the first place. Tossed em away with the rest of the corpse after the blood was sucked dry.

There's a famous story about Herb having breakfast with some new hire pilots and stating that without a doubt he was NOT looking at buying Morris Air- Now way, Now how. Well, he left the breakfast and went to the pre-arranged press conference to announce the acquisition of Morris. Go figure....

Tried to aquire them but the leases were crazy high and the lessors wouldn't re-negotiate better terms so away they went.

The leases were pretty damn cheap after the '05 BK. SWA never tried to acquire anything of the sort. ATA went from 65 airframes, including L10's. In April '08 we were at 30, including L10's, DC10's, '800's and 757's. As with any deal, SWA could negotiate anything they wanted.

SWA was a major player in having GAL come on board. They also had a role in merging GAL into World. They had plenty of chances. They didn't want to deal with ATA labor. SWA blew it, they're paying for it now.

That's in poor taste...

I was under the impression SWA doesn't want -800s because it would require another flight attendant. Maybe that was the story years ago.
