"US Airways cutting 1,000 jobs and focusing flights on its 3 hubs

  • By Joshua Freed, AP Airlines Writer
  • On 1:57 pm EDT, Wednesday October 28, 2009
    • Companies:
:eek:MINNEAPOLIS :erm:(AP) -- Struggling US Airways said on Wednesday it will cut some 1,000 jobs next year, shift nearly all of its flying to its three hubs and Washington, and suspend several international routes.
It's a major retrenchment, and Chairman and CEO Doug Parker said he hopes it gets the airline making money again.
US Airways Group Inc. said the job cuts will happen in the first half 2010 and will include 600 passenger and ramp service workers, 200 pilots, and about 150 flight attendants. The airline will close crew bases in Las Vegas and at LaGuardia airport in New York on Jan. 31, and in Boston on May 2.
It's also scaling back international flying. It is suspending flying between Philadelphia and London Gatwick; Birmingham, England; Milan, Italy; Shannon, Ireland; and Stockholm. US Airways is also formally giving up its government permission to fly between Philadelphia and Beijing, which it had never used."

:bomb: ....coincidence?

Where would a 1/18/1999 (east) hire have sat when the dust settles? I'm morbidly curious.

On the street still if AWA didn't buy their sorry A**es. Way to go USAPA. Keep paying Lawyers while more jobs are lost. With the already agreed upon vacation in the new contract that would equate to 300 more East Jobs. Guess that DOH seniority list is worth more pilots losing their jobs. IDIOTS!

with nic in place not one original AWA pilot would be furloughed. all Soon to be almost 500 furloughees would be east pilots. there is a reason awa wants the list implemented.

And not one of those 500 furloughed from the East had a job at the time of the merger and thats why they were below the West pilots. That's why nic placed them where he did. That's where they belong. Keep holding on to your DOH MCDU. Or get a contract and have immediately 300 jobs back with the Nic. Only u Easties can decide.

when the list was handed out by the senile old man in 2005 all recalls had a chance at coming back, they all had jobs in May of 2005. The furloughees replaced east positions due to the retirement age, which somehow the westies feel entitled to. The only reason East was hiring and recalling was due to East retirements. Those jobs belong east.

Ok...So now those retirements are gone, the only was the airline can shrink is on the East via 190's. Still 15 more to go. they already closed 1 East domicile (pit) now 2 more to go. The East will get smaller and smaller once again. When are you going to accept the fact that the NIC is here to stay and move on? When you lose the appel then what? Wake up MCDU. Nic is here to stay and we need to move on! O

Somewhere in 1999.

Good luck to everyone involved.....They say it so nonchalant as if nobody's lives will change signifigantly even if they aren't furloughed.
