Of course I did. :D I have a friend who works here in South Florida for ERJ, and he said he will get me on when it stops in FLL on the road trip.

Also the 170 will have certification on 2/20. This means that UAIR or one of their block carriers should be flying sometime in the next 60 days.:)

I think it's a fantastic airplane. I sat in the 170 in FLL and was very impressed.

Anyone have links to other pics? The Embraer website is somewhat lacking so far.

Has anyone seen USAir's, Canadair's or JetBlue's proposed pay rates for the ERJ?

Lowecur,

You seem to be the one to ask this question, which frankly has been nagging me for awhile. Is there any significance to the Brazilian registrations on the 170s in the test program? So far I think I have seen PP-XJA through PP-XJF, while the 145XR and other planes do not have XJ-anything. Is there an internal Embraer significance to using the letters XJ?

Thanks,

CWASaab
(yup, I fly for XJ, Mesaba that is)

CWA

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I asked the guru on the yahoo board, we'll see if he gets back to me.

Just a guess, but A thru F are the first 6 to roll out for testing and the road show. XJ probably is some sort of code that these Jets don't have a buyer yet. They will be sold used at some point I would think.

I'll get back to you if I hear from him.

G4G5,

Well, the U pay is being debated on a couple of threads. Believe it is 58k for the CA and 38k for the FO.

As far as jetBlue is concerned, I am not sure anyone has seen it yet, but I sure hope it is more than U. The only saving grace, if they match it, would be the ability to over to the 320, since I think mainline growth is all but over at U.

Apparently, plenty of commuters will have higher payscales on smaller jets than U, so I think the furloughed boys at U just got hosed by their on union.

Yeah,

Do you think any self-respecting commuter exec., er, regional airline exec. would pay their pilots more than a "major"? This is the beginning of the big ugly slide down the back of the toilet for the regional guys. Not good. This aircraft should not be a "regional" jet just because of the manufacturer. It's too bad. Looks like a real nice jet though. I'll be the ERJ-2XX will be even bigger/better.

With USAir and their MEC setting the pay scale bar on those types of planes, maybe more airlines will invest in them. That might bring back some jobs, but bring down salaries at the same time.....Sad.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes: :(

I think usair is in a blundering panic to slash everything in sight. We're hoping CalExpress gets a big enough raise to make the casm difference even greater between a Boeing and an RJ.

I guess most forget that when the 737 came out with 100 seats installed.....marketing orginally called it a regional jet......WOW....think about it

Thanks Dizel8.

I don't see USAir lasting long enough to put a major dent in the 190 market. IMHO, it will be up to Neeleman to set the pay rate on the 190. It may be adventageous to set it a bit higher because he fully realizes that what ever rate he sets is the same pay rate Arpey will use at AA.

Didn't Air Canada purchase some 190's? I was under the impression that they would be operationg them prior to JetBlues deliveries.

Those USAir rates won't last for long. $38,000 would be first year pay. I can't believe that a 1988 USAir recall would take that job.

Assuming a 1988 hire is still unemployed, why would he/she not take this job? Its better than nothing.

As far as we know, JB will be the "official" launch customer of the EMB190. Maybe the Canadians count in a different regime? I don't think it's a race anyway.

C ya

Official launch customer....

Good luck with that. ASA was the launch customer with the E-120, three crashes later they still hadn't worked out the bugs. I sincerely hope you have better luck with the new jungle jet.

BTW it is a great looking beast.

Sure is a purdy "regional jet".

Anybody know how the price, size and performance of that thing compares to the A318 and B735? It looks nearly as big (if not bigger) from those pictures than both, certainly bigger than a F100.

I hope it performs as good as it looks, and the pilots who fly it get paid what they are worth!

For that matter, why would a pilot with 16 years seniority get paid first year rates?

Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!! Airline Management 101... TC

Don't have the 735 weights, but I believe they're close to the 736:
  • 190 - 61,906 empty wt + 28,043 max payload -$30M
  • 736 - 81,800 empty wt + 31,700 max payload -$41M
  • 318 - 85,932 empty wt + 30,913 max payload -$44M
I think the lack of orders for the 736 and 318 speak volumes about their performance. The costs of course are non discounted.
The 190 is longer to accomodate the 2X2 seating.

So, who are you? Jim Dent or Tom Monaghan?

:D

AA717driver,
While I understand your skepticism, I hope those guys get more respect than that from their management. Sixteen years with a company to be paid that is a slap in the face -- and not with their (management's) hand, "sumthin' else."

Right over my head Enigma.

Let's see, Jim Dent is a Golfer, and Tom Monaghan was the pizza guy who owned the Tigers. OK, I give up. :)

Any truth to the rumor that a USAir buddy told me.

The FAA shut down the ERJ 170 sims due to software glitch's?

Two guys who live near FLL (I think) who apparently know a little something about the airline business.
