Oh I remember when I was first hired by a major and a captain, noticing me updating my logbook, pompously stated , "son, why you doin' that!? You're at a major, you'll never need a logbook again." After nine years of furlough and multiple corporate bankruptcies can I strongly recommend the...
Exactly! Right or wrong, good parenting or not, I've directed my kids aways from this profession. Way too many pitfalls. A decade of furlough and permanent career stagnation has greatly altered my perspective.
Choose a career where your skills are multi-faceted, that can be used in...

In my mind profit sharing is risky and a way airline management plays employees for fools. Have we forgotten the decades of year over year losses? Is it not too difficult to show a loss through various accounting principles and the fluctuating price of oil? We are professionals whose careers...
Geez, based upon this thread of continuous inane comments, it seems flightinfo.com has so little information of value anymore. Might as well watch Jerry Springer, it's classier.
There's nothing to say about the merger because all parties involved have to keep their mouths shut at this time. I think this means it's serious and likely going to be announced before the end of the year. IMO.
And, as a former Tway guy sitting at the bottom of AA's forever stagnant...
G4, you go ahead and cross that line. I think you're looking through rose colored glasses though. I'm no big union guy, but who else do we pilots have on our side but ourselves? The press, the FAA, the docs, airline managements, the judges, Wall Street and the general public pretty much...
Amen, and if the guys at the top of the union pyramid scheme don't fight for those guys at the bottom of the pyramid.....well, they deserve whatever crap comes their way.
Good point. I have been at the bottom for so long, furloughed 9 years, recalled to a double commute and reserve. I can make it without AA and am willing to fight hard to make this place worth it. I do not fear AA failing. I wouldn't mind a more quiet and simple lifestyle.
Horton's business plan includes sacrificing thousands of us low seniority folks' jobs because we're obviously what's wrong with AA. I AM NOT WHAT'S WRONG WITH AA and until he and his ilk recognize that I will never support them. Bring on US Airways and Doug Parker....I've nothing to lose as...
I just don't worry about it anymore. Nine years of furlough from AA just to come back and sit reserve in NY on a Superdedooper 80. Bring it all on. I've little to lose and am ready for anything...including another furlough (please don't throw me in that briar patch ;) ).
A crazy stock market and a floundering economy probably have more to do with the retirements. If someone thinks due to the financials it's too scarey to come work with us at AA, fine with me. As for me, I wish I were ten years younger attending class in DFW now. Could be a really good deal.
