Up until recently? Delta hasn't hired since the first part of '08. I left JetBlue in 07 for Delta and it was because I needed to get back to Atlanta. Being faced with a couple of more years of E190 co-pilot pay, at the time, was depressing, but had I stayed, I would be a 190 Captain making more...
Thanks for all the input. Key to my move to Delta was the ability to be based in domicile. I personally hated commuting and the bed bugs at my south ozone park crashpad.
Being based in domicile allowed me to pick up premium flying at Delta in my first year, since they were short staffed at...
I was hired at Jet Blue just over 5 years ago. Then, a year later I went to Delta. It wasn't that I didn't like JetBlue, I did and usually had more fun at work, once I got there. But I found the commute from Atlanta tiring, and had gone through a divorce where I would get my kids 50% of the...
As a domestic pilot flying the MD88 in and out of ATL, I welcome Southwest and its pilots into my home base. This will be a welcome payraise to the AirTran guys and I look forward to Southwest or better rates on our MD88s.
I have been to Guadalahara(sp) twice to test fly MD88s after heavy maintenance. Their shop is top notch and both times the airplanes were nearly flawless. I had less luck with the facility in Dothan, AL.
IMO, we insource far more B757, B767 maintenance, than the MD88 maintenance that we...
This time around our company is much stronger and at the same time wants the airplane. Plus, we already have low pay rates in our contract for these airplanes, except the C series and Sukoi. I believe the company will offer us something in order to outsource this airplane, assuming it is in fact...
Great rumor, and if this were true, these 9s could probably fly longer, along with some new avionics, than a new airframe .
MD88s and 90s are getting glass cockpits.
I think Richard is concerned about the Pratt geared turbo fan, which also is on the airbus neo, I think. This could be overcome with the right guarantees, like you said, and maybe a good deal on CL65 trade-ins.
...Northwest Airlines added Airbus SAS jets.

Delta will decide on plane order by year-end

[QUOTE=twobits;2147490 hiring at Delta will be slim in the next few years.....[/QUOTE
Do you think they're hiring alot now? For you to be correct the airline will have to shrink considerably.
There's a lot to be said about those productive three day trips at Southwest. It seems that our 4 day trips at Delta on the 88 pay about the same number of hours as a 3 day trip at Southwest. Then throw in our lesser hourly rate and we work more days for way less money. Delta loves to make four...
The force to be reckoned with that comes from my back side is more powerful than nature itself and could easily wipe out everyone on a Southwest airplane. Don't underestimate its power.
[This is going to be a good thing going forward, but it sure is going to be a tough pill to swallow watching those 1000+ pilots that weren't at a major when I was on FURLOUGH for 5 stinking years!
I think Delta hired about 660 in 07-08. I can see how it would be a tough pill to swallow.
