LXA pilot, your post should be required reading for the Regional or any aviation job forum.........
I too was the aviation university grad with the gee whiz pilot degree (I did get an A&P as well...the best choice I ever made in school). I started flying full time after wrenching and...
Im turning 35 this year, so ATC is no longer an option. I also lost my hair so modeling is out. The only workout I mainly do is running, so I am skinny and I am also Irish and consequently I am rather pastey looking so male modeling/prostritution is also a forgone option. Did I mention I was bald?
Thanks to the new spot pilot rule I dont need no stinkin' medical any ways!! I can still hold a 3rd class which will allow me to still instruct so I have that going for me.
Im loosing the fight to maintain my 1st class medical........they just banned my anti-pshycotic/anti-parania meds! Just kidding, I have been working against Diabetes for the last 8 years.
I have done the regional FO thing and it was a lovely experience to say the least. I am in corporate now and actually have a good job. Plenty of time off and good pay, that why it really pains me to have to leave. If I were still doing my 6 days of reserve with a day off and 6 more on, then it...
The million dollar question...........If you left flying for a living what would you do?
Do you know others that have left, and what do they do?
Would you stay in aviation in a different capacity or break out into something new?
I am getting ready to actually take the leap, not by choice...
11 years ago I started at $8.00 an hour. With in two years I was us to over $18.00. Pay is always an issue when starting in aviation. I started at a regional airline as a pilot and made $23K the first year = 11.50 an hour in a normal job. You dont get into this for the $$$$$$$$$.
John King (Of the ground school video fame) is on CNN. Please shoot me now! What a complete idiot! He really isnt well versed on jets at all! He should just shut up and hang out with his goergeous wife!
Flying for free??? How did that little gem work? I remeber trying to barely cover the flying costs while there, especially from the lovely and large lady who worked in the cashier office who always accepted a check with a smile and a grunt.
Mr. Kam was an excellent instructor for the A&P program. He was rough around the edges, but had a ton of enthusiasm for waht he did. I still think that was the one class where I learned the most of the entire A&P program. Eventhough he made fun of me for going through the pilot prgram at the...
I actually have a few signs and I think a parking gate memento somewhere around. It was a rite of passage to "allegedly" obtain or perhaps open a parking lot or two by removing those hated gates. I remember the big controversy those caused, little did anyone know what bigger problems were ahead.
Wow a three page Parks thread! I was an "old school" Parks guy, all Cahokia, all the time! I started in '91, and ran out on '95. I almost considered the Parks master degree program, since it was run by Dr. Monoj, who was my old boss from my days as a dishwasher in the lovely hall of decadent...
I made the walk through of the mighty turnstyle in October of '04 to go back into corporate. I was offered a job out of the blue, flying less, making three times my FO pay, and no more commuting. I enjoyed the people at Comair and it was a good experience, but I hated being used and abused as a...
With the 4,000 ft. runway..I'd call the frenchman at Dassault, Falcons are your best bet for good range combined with good takeoff and landing numbers.
Dispatch guy,
First of all that is discrimination, American with Disabilities act prevents that and it is enforced in the courts. I have a special issuance First class medical for type II Diabetes since 1998. I have been a flight instructor while a diabetic, been a corporate pilot while a...
We sure were..............HeII I started this thread..............the days after 9/11, wondering if the regionals were going to grow explosively as the large carriers were furloughing and losing money....
It is quite Ironic, just before 9/11, I tanked an interview with these guys......makes ya...
